Members Fat Cat Posted August 14, 2016 Members Posted August 14, 2016 I have a 2013 150 hp Evinrude on a ranger. When I bought it last year the inspecting dealer noted that both coil brackets were cracked or broken. We were in another state so he taped them up. Its been ok for a couple months but worry it could go bad anytime. Does anyone know if this is something I can fix myself or do I need mechanic?
fishinwrench Posted August 14, 2016 Posted August 14, 2016 Cracked coil brackets is a new one on me. 2013 is still too new for me to be familiar with. Are they metal or plastic ? Looks like the part #'s are:. 354055 Port/ 354061 Starboard. About 25.00 each. Replacing them should be pretty straightforward, just be sure the grounding contacts are clean and secured with lock washers. If there is still warranty on the motor I'd recommend letting a dealer do it so you don't risk voiding any further warranty issues.
Members Fat Cat Posted August 14, 2016 Author Members Posted August 14, 2016 Thanks wrench. They are plastic??? Went to a dealer last year. He said he would order the parts, still no parts. Any recommendations?
fishinwrench Posted August 15, 2016 Posted August 15, 2016 Shouldn't be any problems getting replacement brackets using the part numbers I gave you. If the brackets are plastic I'm curious how the coils are grounded. Did they use plastic brackets with a separate grounding strap? That's freakin' Gay ! Having ignition coils rattling around under the cowling on cheesy little brackets is not very Evinrude-like. I can't wait to see this BS. I assume they get easily broken while taking the cowling off and putting it back on?
Members Fat Cat Posted August 15, 2016 Author Members Posted August 15, 2016 Evidently so, they are right there when you take the cowling off. Will need to put boat on trailer to look at it better. But many thanks Wrench!
