Well, depends what section you want to fish, but the easiest access is below the Elevenmile Resevoir Dam. The first two miles below the dam are catch-and-release artificials-only, and is probably the "best" fishing - but get's the most pressure.

There are multiple access points via Pike National Forest, and nothing more than a 2WD, especially a rental ^_^ , is required.

I thought that's why they call it Elevenmile Canyon... you have to walk 11 miles to get down into the canyon to fish...

Good luck on your trip. I know you'll enjoy... and I know we will all enjoy all the pictures you take and post on here of the scenery and pheesh you snag...

Be hard to do, since the canyon is only 9 miles long. :)

I'll have to ditto much of the info you have received.

Living Topeka Ks for many years, we went to Colorado 3 out of every 5 summers. Eleven Mile Canyon is a great start. I'd do the Dream Stream 1st! Also if you turn north at Woodland Park - about 1 hour is Deckers, Super fishing for some very smart trout. But great short line, indicator nymphing (small # 20 - 24s) some dry action too.

I'd suggest a guide if possible. Pat Dorsey out of Blue Quill in Evergreen CO, also Angler's Covey in Colo Spgs.

And if by any chance -- you can get on to a little lake at Cheyenne Mountain Conference Center and Resort.....DO IT!!!!!!

This is just down from the Broadmoor Resort, they have a great little pond along the golf course, we have stayed there for business meetings and hooked up with some nice 3+ lbs trout.

I've found that I am always MUCH more adventurous in a rental than my 4x4 ;)

And the road runs right along the stream so you can fish most of it without walking too far. Above the stream from the pic you posted is some nice flat sections and I have had lots of luck there. Stood in a foot of water last time I was there with trout rising all around for a big trico hatch. Bugs were floating everywhere and trout sipping them right and left. I put on several Trico spinners and I could not tell the difference between my fly and the real bugs - even up close!! But apparently the trout could. Several times I thought I was watching my fly and when a trout came up and took it I set the hook - only to find it wasn't my fly I was watching and mine came shooting up from the water at my head  So I would say these fish are pretty smart - or I am pretty ...... well you get the idea, they get fished a lot and hit pretty hard in the fall - but there are lots there so you should do well. It is indeed a beautiful section of water. And the DreamStream is just a short drive so you could go up and do that for at least a couple of hours.

Sounds like a great time either way -
