Fish24/7 Posted October 17, 2016 Posted October 17, 2016 Anybody go and have anything to report? Where's the thermocline these days? how about surface temps in the creeks, coves and main lake?
Guest Posted October 18, 2016 Posted October 18, 2016 I launched my boat at Pontiac last Saturday and fished in the Theodosia Arm and Spring Creek. The water temps were around 68 degrees when I started in the morning and rose to around 72 degrees in the evening when I called it quits. Didn't really try to figure out what depth the thermocline was at because I fished shallow most of the day. It was a tough day for me and I only landed 6 bass (4 largemouth and 2 spots) and had 3 keepers. I went out with the idea that I would be able to find bass at the back of creeks on shad, and I did catch some fish at the back of creeks in sometimes very shallow water 1-2 feet. The shad were there at times in big schools, but it didn't seem to me that there were very high numbers of bass back there yet. Caught some fish shallow on squarebills, chatterbaits, and spinnerbaits, There were a lot of fisherman at the back of creeks and in the coves and often times I was sharing that water with two or three other boats. Was there a decent sized tournament going on last Saturday? Eventually, I abandoned fishing shallow and fished a jig around points and channel swings and caught a couple of bass in those areas. However, it was tough to fish a jig in a lot of places because it was windy! Talked to one bass fisherman at the ramp that said he got skunked and another that said he did about what I did for numbers..... However, he told me he caught some nice smallmouth on points fishing a drop shot. Also, that was the first time I've fished Bull Shoals (I just moved over here recently). I'm sure that the bite was way better for some people that know the area. Anyway, hope that report helped some.

Fish24/7 Posted October 24, 2016 Author Posted October 24, 2016 Micropterus you did very well for your first time, nice job! thanks for reporting some people fish here for 5 days and dont catch 6 bass
Guest Posted October 24, 2016 Posted October 24, 2016 Hey, thanks! I was questioning my fishing ability some, with the number of bass that are currently in Bull Shoals, but then I heard some of the recent tournament results and didn't feel as bad. Lol.

Members brian c Posted October 25, 2016 Members Posted October 25, 2016 The fish picture I caught Wednesday during practice. Weighed 4.11 on my scales. Had 2 others in the 4lb range. Thursday was VERY active with bites although I didn't swing on any. The front shut them down although I did catch a 4.20 smallie Saturday during the tournament. The graph picture was where the 4.20 came from Saturday. JestersHK 1
