Bass Yakker Posted October 21, 2016 Posted October 21, 2016 I just started getting into fishing last spring and so I don't have much experience. I have a kayak now and am able to go between 9:30 and 1:00 during the day on some of my days off. I have gone to Lake Springfield so far but am open to going to Fellows. Any advice or tips on those locations and what lures/techniques to use during that time of day would be greatly appreciated. Trying for bass mainly, not so much catfish. I really enjoy the forum. Thanks. the new guy Daryk Campbell Sr and MObassin95 2
MObassin95 Posted October 22, 2016 Posted October 22, 2016 From my experience at L Springfield, I've caught a lot of fish ,in a lot of different locations, on different lures. I've had my most luck probably on a ribbontail worm. Just throw to any cover you can find. It's a super shallow grassy lake, and there's a lot of wood in it as well. Fish the James that feeds into the lake as well. A lot of cover and I've caught some really nice fish on a swim bait, crankbait and t-rigged worm. Again around cover. There's definitely big fish to be caught, you just have to be willing to experiment. Good luck! Bass Yakker and bassfisher 2
MObassin95 Posted October 22, 2016 Posted October 22, 2016 I just posted a report last week, and it would pay off to read old threads. Bass Yakker and Daryk Campbell Sr 2
Bass Yakker Posted October 22, 2016 Author Posted October 22, 2016 Awesome. Thank you MObassin95 for the tips. I'll give that stuff a try.

And this time of year if you can find the channel throw some swimbaits. A channel named winkiedoodles on YouTube; the guy throws swimbaits this time of year on L Springfield and tears them up. Bass Yakker Posted October 26, 2016 Author Posted October 26, 2016 Went out Tuesday on L Springfield from around 10am to 1pm. Little bit of a breeze and some hazy clouds but didn't catch any fish, not even a bite. Beautiful weather and enjoyed the day though. Tried swimbait, t-rigged worm, crankbait. Was over by the rocks east of the power station. Saw fish surfacing there but nothing was taking my bait. I will keep trying though. I know it would help a lot to go at sunrise or sunset but that time is when I'm able to go right now.

So sometimes it's good to try something new. Maybe throw a nedrig around. Don't get discouraged though. It took me a good while to finally be able to catch fish consistently. Bass Yakker 1
Bass Yakker Posted October 27, 2016 Author Posted October 27, 2016 Appreciate the encouragement MObassin95. I'll just keep experimenting with different lures and maybe try a few different locations next time. Hopefully we both have better luck next time! MObassin95 1
Members JimH Posted October 27, 2016 Members Posted October 27, 2016 Good luck man. I just started fishing Lake Springfield this year and it has utterly defeated me. I have caught 2 fish in maybe 40 hours of fishing that lake. I am going to keep reading reports and trying new things. Or try fellows lake.... Bass Yakker 1

I've caught more fish at Fellows but I catch better fish at Springfield. Fellows is better looking water and more of it. And there are different fish to catch. I've caught a couple of small walleye and there is always a chance at a musky. There are some spots on Stockton that I think would be good out of a kayak. Getting to them is the problem but I've been searching some back roads and trails on Google earth and might give it a try soon. Bass Yakker and Daryk Campbell Sr 2
