Mike and I hit the lake at 645 today on the hunt for stripers. We seen and marked plenty of fish. Even had some blow ups and hook ups but not one striper made it to the boat toady. At on point we were surrounded by striper just busting the surface and still couldn't get a bite.  It was frustrating to say the least.  But it's fishing and I have to take the good with the bad. But with all honesty, I still had a great morning watching them feed with the beautiful back drop of the the changing leaves.  Stay safe and good luck out there fellas

And that's Beaver.

She laugh at me when I say fish on this lake become "target locked". They lock in on a certain bait and that bait has to act / behave a certain way for the fish to bite.

They are like cats I tell ya.  Watch how a cat behaves when it's watching prey or a toy.  That should help you figure them out.

I thought I was the only guy that threw at surfacing stripers just to watch them go down and move on. A rapid moment of unrealistic optimism followed by hours of "What the heck should I have been throwing!".

IMG_1795.JPGSame story for me.   Fish blowing up everywhere.  I started throwing topwater plugs.  Fish swirling behind it, short strikes, three hookups, one fish made it to the boat.  Crazy!  Should have boated a half dozen or more.  I had a couple hits on shiners under a balloon, but again, lost the hookup.  Doooo!  However, it was a bueatiful sunrise on the lake today.

It was a fun yet frustrating day with Dan!!  We had fish everywhere..yet a buddy of mine was in the same area, throwing the same baits, and he boated 9 stripers with the biggest around 25-27 pounds!!!  That just fuels the fire to get'em next time!

Don't that just burn your behind.....?

Oh, one more thing. I didn't mention it this morning when Dan and I were in the boat but a very popular striper guide on Beaver came running ON PAD through the busting stripers this morning. I wasn't sure who it was but he went right by my buddy and I think he cussed a little when he went by him!!  Guess he wanted to push those stripers down so he could run his live bait...I don't understand why he would act like that though.
