Steel Creek to Kyle's landing

Fish Bork

Recommended Posts

Going on a group trip at the end of the month to Steel Creek by Ponca. I've never been up that far up and have heard the fishing isn't that great. Did I hear right or should I try to wet a line. Thanks

Absolutely, there are fish and you should fish. Is it the best section of the Buffalo for fish? Not likely. Ponca to Steel Creek has so many rapids that when the river is at a decent level for floating, as soon as you geta rod out you have to put it down and grab a paddle.

Steel Creek to Kyle's slows a bit, but you are still going to have to keep an eye on the prize.

Good Luck Fishing and staying dry.

Plenty of fish there, some nice ones too. Not always easy to catch due to crowds though. B) Dan-o

unless the rains come you wont be floating that section!! I was there today, on my way back from our trip from woolun to bakers ford,(FISHLESS) and you sure won't go far, we have done much better the next two sections down river

ham , it was the woolum to bakers ford runs, the water was in the mid 40's and it's on the low side... i've been three trips fishless!... all in the middle section this winter.and have not even seen anything that looked like a fish in the gin clear water ... it was in late december in moving water the last time i cleaned house!(paddleblade size) but i was going every weekend and we followed them down stream for six weekends in the fall. as the winter set in we got a gully washer flash flood that took the river in the 18' to 19' foot range.and it seemed as if all the fish took off to deep holes of non-moving waters and haven't moved out to the shallow waters yet.but like i said the water is still cold... we had frost on the tents!sunday morning and ice didn't melt much at all in my cooler for a two-day trip !! but we did see some elk along the river and that was truley a treat to see!it was a highlite of this trip!
