12-4 striper

Took a friend fishing with me today to go after some striper.  Was persistent with the cast net thanks to Dan and netted about 2 dozen gizzard shad. I lost  3 stripers, and caught 3 good size largemouth.  He lost a few stripers also but brought in a small 8-10 pounder and then caught this one about 20 lbs. It was his biggest striper ever and made our day.  He caught it on one of his bass baitcasters so it took a little while.  Had to spend some time reviving it but was released when it was spunky.  He didn't keep the smaller one either because he is allergic to eating fish.

Congrats Vinsott. That a nice trophy.  I remember most fish over 20lbs I've caught.    I'm still wondering how ur throwing the net over the rail lol

Took me a while to throw without taking down the front seat...still not fast enough to hit the good gizzards most of the time.

Stump: be presistant with the shad catching.  Gotta give ur self at least an hr to catch other wise bring brooders.  

Vinaott: I release at least 80% of striper caught also. I don't catch and freeze. I just catch what I will eat for the week. The rest can go back.   That's just how I do it though.

Dan, how big of a tank do you have for shad? I there a rule for gallon size times number of shad. My little boat doesn't even have a live well so looking at options for a bait tank. Thanks

I'm not sure on the live well size but it's pretty big.  I can stuff 9 good Stripers in there lol. I've heard that people do well with a 5 gallon bucket and a areratort aerator though.
