jeb Posted December 26, 2016 Posted December 26, 2016 With no family in town, I decided to take advantage of the warm weather and hit the lake about 630 yesterday morning for some Xmas fishing. Caught a couple fishing WW's and RC's along point sides at first. Was idling along and found a bait ball with fish under it, which I see a lot of on Beaver. Does not always mean fish, but it did this time. Used the spot lock on the trolling motor to setup in the face of the good breeze and got into them! Just happened to park over where they were and caught a bunch of nice fish with spoons. LM and SM over 3, many spots in the 2+ range. I caught 4 in 4 casts at one point. 25'-35' deep. Finally wore them out and caught a few more fishing steep banks and points with spoons and jerk baits. Wind drove me off the lake about 10am. One of the better days I've had on Beaver for a while. Quillback Posted December 26, 2016 Posted December 26, 2016 Congrats on some good fishing! Looks like pretty decent weather for the upcoming week, at least for this time of year. I would think a guy might be able to get out and catch a few. Got a pretty good shot of rain last night here in BV, if it was enough in the Beaver drainage to generate some run off, that might help with the bite this week you would think.
J-Doc Posted December 26, 2016 Posted December 26, 2016 Motorguide or Minnkota? My MK Terrova spot lock is like a drunk guy is holding you on a spot. Just wobbles around and erratically tries to get back on the spot with wide open throttle because he drifted too far off. With fishing, it takes a lot of luck. That sounds like one trip where luck and experience paid off big time. Need marine repair? Send our own forum friend "fishinwrench" a message. He will treat you like family!!! I owe fishinwrench a lot of thanks. He has been a great mechanic with lots of patience!
jeb Posted December 26, 2016 Author Posted December 26, 2016 MinnKota Terrova. It's pretty good as far as holding it's spot, but I understand the MG is a little better. Got out again this morning. A lot more traffic one the lake, and no wind. So the fishing was more like normal, but a little weird for this time of year with the warm weather. I had them blowing up shad near me at one point, so broke out the topwaters, and caught several fish on them! Caught an almost 5lb spot on a jigging spoon. Just a complete football. Caught a nice LM on an A-rig, some more on spoons, one on a jerkbait. So had to work a bit harder today, and didn't catch near the numbers of yesterday, but some good quality fish mixed in there. All in the PC area. Watched one striper guy that was working back and forth where I was fishing put a couple on board. Looked like decent fish. Quillback Posted December 26, 2016 Posted December 26, 2016 You're killing me! C'mon knee get better. Great fishing weather for this time of year, and some biting fish, and I am stuck indoors. And top water action too. Aiiieeeee!!!!!
Stump bumper Posted December 27, 2016 Posted December 27, 2016 I went out to Coose and spooned up bass all the way down to 50 feet, just find a bait ball there are bass around. I hit the trees and found a big fat spot behind everyone.
jeb Posted December 27, 2016 Author Posted December 27, 2016 Yep, that seems to be the key. Watch those electronics and find the bait with big fish under or nearby. But really, that's always a good thing to do. The difference is that right now, the bass seem to be reading the same fishing articles I read and are actually biting like they're suppose to in those situations.
