Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted January 8, 2006 Root Admin Share Posted January 8, 2006 You had beautiful weather for it... Who went? How was fishing? Wish I could have been there- next time!
Wayne SW/MO
Well Ollie and I were there, but didn't find any others. Fishing was slow, but Ollie had some nice spurts on jigs and probably did as well as anybody. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman. ollie
Funny about all who said they would be there and then weren't! It was awfully windy out there today. Wayne, I know you would have done better had you brought either a spinning outfit or a heavier weight flyrod. I think total all I caught was 9 or 10. Of course everyone I talked to said, "you should have been here yesterday"! Story of my life. tippet7
I was out there. I probably talked to one or two of you I was the only idiot in a pair of waders! I had no idea that you cannot wade at that place. I did catch several fish though, nothing over 17 inches, but they were all pretty healthy. I caught them on an olive scud, olive wolly jig, san juan worm, wd40, griffiths gnat and a blue wing olive. there was a nice hatch going on around 12:00 or so. You are so stupid you threw a rock at the ground and missed.
Members Lucky Fly
Sorry about not being able to get there in the morning. Patrick got up with a fever. I made it to Roaring River by 1:00 and fished until the bell. Did not see anyone that I recognized. Fishing was tough with the wind, did manage 10-12 on PT's, Mercury Midges and Minute Midges. No big fish. The large brown is still holding in the shallow water behind campsite 143. He will go 20+ inches. i fished for him for about an hour right before the bell with no luck. He did look at a wiry flymph but did not commit. steve "Trout Don't Live In Ugly Places"
Roaring River Veteran
I was there too. I got there at 8:05 and there were several cars in the parking lot in front of the lodge but no one there. everybody was fishing I guess. I fished for about an hour before I had to go get ready for church. It was slow for me too. I got there and realized I had lost the fly box that I usually pick from at taney the night before so I was using stuff that I don't usually use. I also fished Saturday and It was a little better but not great. If you are after big numbers but not big fish the lower end is the place to be. A person on a good day could eaisly catch 100 + fish in a couple of hours. Good luck and good fishing RRV Good luck and Good fishing RRV

Would you have time to fight and release a fish if you had 100+ fish caught in 120 minutes?? Sounds like most of you all were there fishing and didn't even know it. I might suggest a meeting time and place next rendevous, but then again, who wants to stand in a parking lot looking at fish in the creek and wait for someone to show up?? Just ease your mind and tell yourself, surely they will find me on the water
Steve Smith
I wish I could have made it yesterday, but my Granddaughter had chicken pox Christmas Eve so we rescheduled our family Christmas to Sunday. I did fish part of Friday and Saturday, and it was pretty tough. Construction continues to silt the water on the upper end. There have been a lot of people fishing ever since Christmas due to the nice weather, and the fish were really spooky in the still waters. I noticed the trout would scatter if they saw a leader or a human both days. The fly only zone continues to be great simply because the fish haven’t seen the pressure the upper end has since opening. The dry fly fishing that has been great in the early morning hours has turned sour the past two weekends too. Friday morning I had one attack a Crackleback on the first cast, then not another take. Nymphs, San Juans, and woolies continue to be good. ___________________________ AKA Flysmith - Cassville MO
Roaring River Veteran
FJ80, The best fishing I have ever had was at RR and I caught 61 fish in 75 minutes. I caught a fish every cast without fail for 1 hour and 15 minutes. w/witnesess. I haven't talked to them in years but Virgil Stanley and his granddaughter Jennifer were there to witness it. Virgil said it was "the damndest thing he had ever seen". I have not fished the lower end yet this year but I walked it last week and there are so many fish down there they don't have enough to eat. The guy that was with me made the comment that he had seen pools at the hatchery with fewer fish. He picked up a few pebbles and threw them in and the fish chased them. I really do believe you could catch a 100 fish it may take 2 1/2 hours but either way it should be the time of a lifetime. ollie
RRV, what were you driving? I was in the lot @ 8:00 and asked some other guys if they were with ozark anglers and they didn't have a clue to what I was talking about. I drive an old blue s-10 extended cab. Were you the guy with a red stocking cap on? If so I talked to you and didn't know any better. I had my best luck in the C&R zone and just below the low water bridge. The jig color was a sculpin and I was sssslllloooowwwwlllyyyy bouncing it off the bottom.
