I own an Ultrex and fished it from July on last year.

Cons:

Have to use the built in transducer (no down or side scan)

Spot lock wanders a bit

Pros:

You do not need to leave the console to deploy

No strain on old or arthritic joints

Can troll by fob from the back

In my opinion, I think Johnson Outdoors wasted their money in building-in a non-side-scan transducer into the Ulterra and the Ultrex.  Probably most guys that spend the money to buy either one of those trollers want the functionality of side-scan...sure, there are exceptions but if your Sonar is a side-finder and you paid the tariff for that function, surely you want to use it ?  On the Ulterra, they left out the little space on the mount-bracket where you would normally route a transducer cable to run thru it and down the side of the shaft for some unknown reason but there are several ways around that.  Don't know if they left that helpful feature out on the Ultrex too ?
