Fishrman Posted March 21, 2007 Posted March 21, 2007 Had 14 keeper crappie last night. They moved up toward dusk and were feeding heavily for about an hour and a half. Biggest was 14.5 and only had two that were 10. Freezer was glad to accept the fillets.
Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted March 21, 2007 Root Admin Posted March 21, 2007 Not the exact spot... but what part of the lake were you on?
Bill Babler Posted March 22, 2007 Posted March 22, 2007 Lilley, Myself and Darrell Stiner, had a decent morning on crappie in Long Creek. 12 keepers all 14 inch and above with 1 nice white about 2 1/2 pounds thrown in to boot. Wish I could give you a depth on the crappie, but we had some right on the bank and some in the 16 ft. range. Most I believe were suspended or chasing shad. Had water temps from 58 to 62. Tons of boat traffic and lots of folks after em, for mid-week. Frankly I just could not believe the ammount of fishing prussure for a wednesday. http://whiteriveroutfitters.com http://whiteriverlodgebb.com
Tightline Posted March 22, 2007 Posted March 22, 2007 Bill, Fishr, those are some nice slabs, makes my mouth water just reading it.That water temp has really came up the last ten days.Maybe its all gonna bust loose soon. Good report guys.
CMAC Posted March 22, 2007 Posted March 22, 2007 We are a little bit behind you guys, but fishing up hear at LOTO is starting to get good for crappie. Bill, Wednesday boat traffic at the ROCK is unbelievable. Are you sure you weren't having a nightmare? Phil, if you read this, what is your preferred method for ordering the swimming minnows. Those babys work great up here, just need to use the stick guards. By the way is black back pearl belly available? Thanks gents!
Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted March 22, 2007 Root Admin Posted March 22, 2007 I order from my local tackle supplier, Crawleys and from Cricket Creek Marina. And I do think I have the minnow you're referring to. I have plenty in stock right now. Have a big order going out today.
Fishrman Posted March 22, 2007 Author Posted March 22, 2007 Went again last night, had 7 big ones, and my buddy had a limit. I hate to say what area of the lake right now, as that my freezer is not full yet. The ones I am catching are just like Lilley and Babler said, shallow and deep. They are really chasing shad in the evening. If anyone reads my posts, you should probably figure out what arm of the lake I am fishing. That is all the info. I will give you, but that should be enough. Will be back at it again tonight and Sat. and Sun.
Members HillbillyJim Posted March 22, 2007 Members Posted March 22, 2007 How come I am not your buddy anymore? I would love to have a limit of crappie too.
Fishrman Posted March 22, 2007 Author Posted March 22, 2007 I cannot believe you are still using that nickname. It is hard to get four in my boat, my 8 year old is high maintenance. But talk to your other buddy who has Wed. prayer meetings, he goes by himself quite a bit.
Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted March 22, 2007 Root Admin Posted March 22, 2007 HillbillyJim- launch at Bridgeport and head to your right up James. The first cove on your right- half way back is a good sized cedar. Fish out from it and next to it using smoke swimming minnows or chartreuse sm's and you should have your limit. Disclaimer: Crappie spots are hard to come by for some, easy for others. This may or may not be a good spot... any area in the Bridgeport/James River Arm is good right now, if you have the touch and patience.
