Guest Posted February 13, 2017 Posted February 13, 2017 There's a rumor going around that the COE plans to draw beaver lake down another 10ft. Supposedly to work on the dam. Anybody else hear this?
J-Doc Posted February 13, 2017 Posted February 13, 2017 Part of me wants this so bad. I want to walk around Monte Ne and document it. I missed it in 2003. The other half of me says..too dangerous. Them the flip side of this is...Lots of pleasure boaters will damage their vessels hitting gravel bars or trees. So there's an upside. Lol!! oodlesiggy 1 Need marine repair? Send our own forum friend "fishinwrench" a message. He will treat you like family!!! I owe fishinwrench a lot of thanks. He has been a great mechanic with lots of patience!
Quillback Posted February 13, 2017 Posted February 13, 2017 You would think that if it is true, they would get the word out in plenty of time for people to get ready to move docks etc.,
Lance34 Posted February 13, 2017 Posted February 13, 2017 I've heard that too. Asked a guy back in the summer that moves docks on folks property that don't live here 12 months out of the year. He said yes, just didn't know when yet. Then the other day a fella at work said they are getting it down now and plan to work on it when at 10ft. Which isn't very far away. Here is a pic of Habberton I took on Sunday while out for a bike ride. Guess we won't be dipping any buck brush this Spring again either.
MOPanfisher Posted February 13, 2017 Posted February 13, 2017 I would be very surprised if there were immediate plans for anything remotely like that. Unless its an emergency there would be a flood of news releases and articles about it well before it happened. The single biggest rumor that goes around on COE Lakes is "They are going to lower the lake 10 feet to fix the dam" or something very similar. They might be planning something but again I would expect there to be a large public announcement about it before it actually happens.
Guest Posted February 13, 2017 Posted February 13, 2017 The rumor is a result of this drought most likely. However if the COE continues to generate & the drought persists, we could see an all time low. Either way, I'm loving the low water.
RyanG Posted February 13, 2017 Posted February 13, 2017 I heard the same thing, dropping the water to work on the dam. It's kinda cool seeing the lake like this but a lot of my go to spots are garbage now. Actually, maybe that's the up side to this. Lol. Lance34 1
Members wmander Posted February 13, 2017 Members Posted February 13, 2017 Wow, interesting. Haven't heard anything about it. Hard to imagine 10 ft lower than current level. Not sure exactly where you could even launch safely.
Guest Posted February 13, 2017 Posted February 13, 2017 Ive got a NuCanoe & 4 wheeler just in case this happens & I've got to resort to guerilla tactics. There will be some Docks that become causulties. I know one in particular in Coose that's about to need a new roof when the pole timber busts thru the tin.
Stump bumper Posted February 14, 2017 Posted February 14, 2017 I think this is a late response to the fact they did not lower the lakes the past three winters resulting in flooding down stream. The number one reason these lakes were made was for flood control and they have failed to have room for spring rains. What would be funny if they pulled down the winter right before a drought summer, then we could see 20 feet lower than now, that would mean no power generation in the summer. There could be standard maintenance that occurs when the water level drops, but I think if it was a plan, they would have released that info.
