MOPanfisher Posted February 27, 2017 Posted February 27, 2017 Well it will depend somewhat on what direction the wind is from. Since you are talking crappie I would say Lightfoot Park, launch and never go out into the main lake, turn left and go back into the cove, plenty of fish attractors along the banks there. Another option is the end of the county line road (358 I think) on the Pomme arm, you can go either left of right and fish those coves, big coves plenty of room. Other dock zones have roads and many have gravel ramps. If you give me some idea of where on the lake you want to fish I will be able to give some more specifics. I may not be a very good fisherman anymore but I can get you there.
Members crappie jerk Posted February 27, 2017 Members Posted February 27, 2017 glad to see more people posting on pomme.. I usually put in at bolivar landing as I'm a '' OLD GOAT'' and it is easy to put my boat in because I have bad lungs and the ramp isn't too steep. mopanfisher, keep up the posts !!!
Ranger520vx Posted February 28, 2017 Posted February 28, 2017 I would second what panfisher said. There are quite a few brush piles in that cove and we caught quite a few Crappie in there last year.
wareaglecamo Posted February 28, 2017 Author Posted February 28, 2017 thank you so much MOPanfisher and crappie jerk for your input . . . I am downsizing and "slowing down" in my approach to fishing . . . just sold my wareagle . . . my approach to fishing in the future will be more about the esthetics and photography than number of fish boated . . . crappie jerk, I think you and I have a lot in common . . . I am also an "old goat" and as a result of a recent injury, have a lung and resulting stamina problem . . . all new to me and very frustrating . . . in addition, I had my knee replaced 6 weeks ago (which made my trip to MS literally "a real pain" but well worth it in terms of memories . . . the main reason I am asking for info is because I have fished Pomme de Terre and Truman very little during my lifetime and plan on focusing on them as my main lakes in the future . . . MOPanfisher the area of Bolivar Landing by way of Hwy 13 north from Springfield is probably most convenient for me but I am not going to limit myself to that area . . . most of the days I fish I will probably fish 6 hours like from 8am to 2 or 3pm and allowing myself 1-2 hours to reach my destination by car . . . that leaves me with area of Pomme de Terre as "fair game"
wareaglecamo Posted February 28, 2017 Author Posted February 28, 2017 Thanks R520vx . . . appreciate the input
MOPanfisher Posted February 28, 2017 Posted February 28, 2017 Bolivar is an excellent launch point for a boat, but seems to me that it would not be as good for a kayaker, but I am not one. I think you could be at Lightfoot just a quickly as you could Bolivar. I have caught more than one limit of crappie and never gotten outside the no wake cove. Ranger520vx 1
Ranger520vx Posted February 28, 2017 Posted February 28, 2017 I would have to agree that Lightfoot would be a lot more protected. And it has everything shallow in the back of both arms of the cove and it is around 40 feet deep in the middle of memory serves me correctly. Plus it seems to always hold bait fish.
MOPanfisher Posted February 28, 2017 Posted February 28, 2017 When the spawn is on I would be more inclined to fish the last 3 to 4 hours of the day around lightfoot. Even if dark catches you, you will still be in a no wake area. And if there just happens to be a red f150 in the lot, and a red alumacraft prowling around say hi.
wareaglecamo Posted February 28, 2017 Author Posted February 28, 2017 MOPan and Ranger . . . I could not have found better advice than what you have given . . . I looked up both areas on my Pomme de Terre map . . . both areas look perfect in every way from my point of view . . . can't wait to give them a try . . . I am so thankful for this forum and the advice members are willing to share . . . wonderful!!! . . . I'll post after my first trip and hopefully with a few photos . . . probably have to wait just a little while to allow my knee to further heal . . . it will then be the first place I fish in the kayak . . . thanks again!
