Stump bumper Posted April 5, 2017 Posted April 5, 2017 I got out to PC around 5:30 yesterday with storms rolling in but clear skies overhead. I could not find anything but a few small shad balls in the creeks. I saw lighting coming straight down over Rogers, so I headed back to the Marina. Then the rod next to me just took off the back of the boat into the lake! I turned around with no hope of finding it in white caps and they sink fast anyway, then I saw something floating in the water. It was my net, it floats and had garbed my jerkbait and the reason the pole went over. I got the net and the pole back. So I dropped the trolling motor when I got back inside the no wake zone and the fish finder lit up like Christmas and beeped like crazy, shad and big fish everywhere. So I put down an A rig and started pulling and in less than a minute fish on, it bent the 8ft rod in half took drag then was gone. I reeled in to find a straight hook, drag too tight. That is when I noticed the lighting was getting to the lake and I had to run, I stayed up all night wondering what that fish looked like. Blll, tho1mas, zarraspook and 3 others 6

Great story about the "overboard" Stump glad you got em' back. Fish will be there another day. No use risking getting fried by lightning. I was in pc in the morning. No quality, a couple 10" spots. Saw several striper boats in front and into the No wake area.
RyanG Posted April 5, 2017 Posted April 5, 2017 I know it's hard to leave fish, especially the kind that can straighten hooks, but good on you for putting up because of the lightning. That's something I don't mess with. I was fishing an Everett I believe two years ago around this time of year and a nasty storm blew through. I waited it out under our dock in Coose but I saw many guys still fishing in the lightning and rain. Around time to weigh in sheriff deputies, and fire rescue took off out of PC. Some poor lad around the dam wasn't so lucky and got struck and died out there. Hit close to home because I was on the lake when that happened. Sorry for the story, didn't mean to take over! Just a valuable lesson some learn the hard way. Those fish will be there another day! Glad you were able to get your gear back too!
