Stump bumper Posted April 8, 2017 Posted April 8, 2017 It is that time of year. I sat in PC until 10 last night catching 3lb whites and 5lb hybrids until I got board of catching. I had the perfect 8inch gizzard shad on a free line but no stripers came to visit the light. I thought about moving down to the bridge but decided to let my one live bait go and hang it up instead. I was using a spoon and the less I moved the spoon the faster they would bite. Dan the fisherman, dan hufferd, Vinsott and 1 other 4
J-Doc Posted April 8, 2017 Posted April 8, 2017 I figured last night was good. I wanted to go but couldnt. I will be night fishing this year. Avoiding crowds. I like my quiet. Stump bumper Posted April 8, 2017 Author Posted April 8, 2017 After the sun went down there was one boat that came through and two trailers in the parking lot when I pulled out at 10PM. Tonight the wind will be too rough, last night was perfect for night fishing without having to tie down to anything. Carl W 1

Dan the fisherman Posted April 8, 2017 Posted April 8, 2017 I still haven't done the night white bite. Sounds like a blast. Good job there stump
Dutch Posted April 8, 2017 Posted April 8, 2017 It can be a great trip. Once in a while we have that at Stockton. I am planning to give it a shot Wednesday night.
Blll Posted April 15, 2017 Posted April 15, 2017 Stump, did you keep any whites to eat? I caught a few today and was surprised to find the females still full of eggs. I sure would have thought they spawned by now. Another strange thing, I caught a nice eye, just shy of 18". Strange thing was I caught him on a crappie jig in 3' of water at 11am. What's he doing' there? WT everywhere was 62-64.
hoglaw Posted April 15, 2017 Posted April 15, 2017 I've fished up the river and up war eagle 3 or 4 times this year. I've caught zero females and have not had a good white trip. They're either still prespawn or just aren't going to run. So to hear that they still have eggs is good. Maybe the walleye was a post spawn fish? They hang around upstream and in shallow water for a while I think. They're still being caught up the rivers.

I caught an 18in eye on jerk bait near PC right on the rocks also. There were no bass up there but there was an eye, probably looking for sunning crawfish. I was in the back of Avoca looking for bait and ran over bass in 2 feet of water, looked like they were sitting on beds. White bass don't have to run up the river to spawn, I have run into spawning whites around the dam, anywhere they have a sandy shore they will spawn, thus the reason OK calls them sand bass. Funny thing is I have not caught any small whites, they all seem to be around 3-4 lbs. I am wondering about the last years spawn, where did they go? Dan the fisherman 1
bferg Posted April 17, 2017 Posted April 17, 2017 Stump: I want to try this but I need to get some lights. Any recommendation on the light set up for a complete night light rookie?
