Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted March 28, 2007 Author Root Admin Posted March 28, 2007 Jim and I have been researching Dolly Varden and Artic Char... this is a late season Dolly or Char caught in Margot Creek last year. Jim has always thought they were Dollys but we think it could be a Char instead. Anyone know for sure? This is one late in the season (August) but not in spawning colors yet.

Members AKflyfisher Posted March 30, 2007 Members Posted March 30, 2007 Lilly, I know that the top one is a dolly. Dollies have pink dots char have red ones but they are so close in genetics it dosnt mater.
troutchaser Posted March 30, 2007 Posted March 30, 2007 My brother called me from his home in Idaho last night. He did some contract work for a guy who just got back from AK. He said he and his son took turns fishing while the other kept the bears away. They caught 40-50 fish each. I don't know if they kept any, though. He didn't say what they were catching, I'll know more about that tonight, but he told my brother "just go. I don't care how you have to do it, just do it." So he called me and we're going to plan a trip. Combined with these photos, I've really got the fever, now. Paul Rone

Bill Babler Posted April 11, 2007 Posted April 11, 2007 Alaska, Fisheries defines them as the same. Regional and Reproductive color cycles may be different, and I have also found two distinct spellings, both they say being correct. Dolly Vardon, Dolly Varden both are correct. Arctic Char or a Vardon Char according to their dept. Are the same fish. They are also called Dolly Vardon Char. On another note. Great Pic's. Gentlemen, and I cannot stress this enough. If you have or ever want an Alaskan Adventure Trip. NOW thru either Phil or Jim Johnson is the time to go,period. Don't wait, Don't put it off till next year, Don't put it off till the kids are out of school. You will never Go! Your not getting any younger. You or your family will never regret you going and you will talk about and remember it until the day you die. I will guarantee you the price that he has on these wonderful fishing, bear viewing adventure trips will come to an end. They have too. He is just flat to reasonable. For the services you get, his price is ridiculas. Almost all lodges anywhere in Alaska let alone on one of the best Rainbow rivers in the world are priced at $1000,00 a day, and worth it if you can afford it. Jim's price for an entire week with meals, lodging and guides are under 2 thousand total. YOU READ THAT RIGHT. In my Alaska float trips, 5 years ago, I was paying guides,$1,500.00 a week. A 5 day Alaskan float with tent camps was $5,500.00 and I was sold out every year. Do not delay, if they have openings, Book this trip. If you never catch a fish, the trip would still be worth twice the price. You will catch fish. Period. http://whiteriveroutfitters.com http://whiteriverlodgebb.com
