kevthebassman Posted June 4, 2017 Posted June 4, 2017 I have booked my trip for the year, we are doing a long trip and camping two nights on the river. I have never floated the Jacks Fork, and I know that even if I had, it has changed quite a bit. The object was to find peace and quiet, and get some quality fishing in. Any help on what the fish are biting on, good spots to camp, and if I'm a crazy person for thinking that I can float 39 miles of this river in two and a half days would be much appreciated! Oh and if you should happen to see a couple in straw hats floating, give us a big wave and stop to socialize!
moodyfour Posted June 4, 2017 Posted June 4, 2017 Honestly I would start at 17 Bridge if you are only going 2 1/2 days. It will still be a push to get all the way to Eminence in my opinion. As a kid we would go 17 to Alley in 2 1/2 days. Especially if u want to fish much. kevthebassman 1
kevthebassman Posted June 6, 2017 Author Posted June 6, 2017 Many thanks, I may do just that. I can cover some water if I have to but it's no fun passing up fishing holes in a rush.
Gavin Posted June 6, 2017 Posted June 6, 2017 Would pick a shorter float. Kinda flat & slow below Rhymers. kevthebassman 1
Coosa Posted June 6, 2017 Posted June 6, 2017 see you there....my brother and I will be going either prongs to alley or 17 to alley same date. We will be in a couple coosa hds. kevthebassman 1
darbwa Posted June 6, 2017 Posted June 6, 2017 I agree that a shorter float will be more enjoyable for you. 39 miles will not be a float, it will be a paddle with no time for fishing.
moodyfour Posted June 7, 2017 Posted June 7, 2017 Also, heard today that from Alley to Eminence is unfloatable due to the flood. Haven't been down to see it but it was a pretty reliable source.
Members OzarkRiverCamper Posted June 7, 2017 Members Posted June 7, 2017 We just floated Prongs to Bay Creek...about 25 miles. We did it in 3 days, 2 nights. Started 9AM Day 1 and ended around 2PM day 3. If I had to do it again, I would be looking for a shorter float as the fish were biting but we had to paddle past a lot of them. If I wanted to fish a lot and relax, I would do 17 bridge to Bay Creek. The river didn't seem to be moving us along as fast as in past years, I posted separately about that. I am really curious to see how you feel after your float. Whatever you do you'll have fun I am sure. Coosa 1

I never fished upper jacks b4 and i will be headed that way friday. The guy at Harveys didn't act like he wanted me to put in at the prongs....he said it was getting pretty low up there and recommended putting in at 17 bridge. I'm ok with that but if it is floatable up there i would like to do it, don't mind doing some dragging. Would just like to do a little more than 24 miles over 3 days. I could add six miles by putting in at prongs.
