mcp633 Posted April 9, 2007 Posted April 9, 2007 I'm planning a trip for when the Legislature ajourns in May. I'm going to take a week off, pack the four wheel drive sleigh, head south and try to catch some trouts. I want it to be road trip style and hit at least one good stream each day. I would like to leave J-town on Sunday night 5/20, and start on the Little Piney Monday morning and the Current on Tuesday. After that, I don't know. I need some input from you experts down that way. I would like to get a good days fishing in at each stop and have time to drive to the next in the evening so I'll be ready to fish the next morning. I would like to end up at Taney on Friday, or Saturday and then head for home. Other than that, I'm completely flexible in between. If you could point out some places and accesses to help me plan this road trip, I would greatly appreciate it. Kyle If you don't stand behind our troops, please feel free to stand in front of them
Terry Beeson Posted April 9, 2007 Posted April 9, 2007 Be sure to include the North Fork of the White. Check out Brian Wise's postings and consider Brian to guide you on this jewel... It's a "must do" for the trip you're planning. Also, if you are considering dropping "south of the border," keep the Spring River in Mammoth Spring, AR and, of course, the Norfork and Bull Shoals tailwaters as well as Beaver tailwaters after Taney. SilverMallard Posted April 9, 2007 Posted April 9, 2007 I'd also have to hit NFOW if I were you. Then make the loop west and hit Taneycomo or Capps Creek or Crane Creek...depending on generation at TRD. Members armyflyfisher Posted April 9, 2007 Members Posted April 9, 2007 On the Little Piney..... Mill Dam Hollow access just South of Newburg on T Highway. I've had the best success here. http://www.2manyhobbys.com/Little%20Piney%20Creek.htm There is a good description here of the Little Piney fishery and maps of the place I mentioned. Have fun! Wish I could join you but I'll be in Texas by then. David

mcp633 Posted April 9, 2007 Author Posted April 9, 2007 I'm pretty familiar with LP and the Current, but are there wadeable accesses with decent fishing at the others? Don't have the $$$ for a guide each place with the gas prices these days. I was planning on tenting/sleeping in the car. Are there spots to drop a tent? Terry Beeson Posted April 9, 2007 Posted April 9, 2007 The quick and easy answer is "yes"... mcp633 Posted April 9, 2007 Author Posted April 9, 2007 I love specifics! If you don't stand behind our troops, please feel free to stand in front of them
jdmidwest Posted April 10, 2007 Posted April 10, 2007 Nobody has mentioned the fact that smallies and other warmwater species are going to be good at that time also. Try Jack's Fork, Upper 11 pt, Warm Fork, Strawberry, Crooked Creek or Spring River to name a few. A man can not live on trout alone! All have wadeable water. Team up with someone on here and share a canoe for a float one day. "Life has become immeasurably better since I have been forced to stop taking it seriously." — Hunter S. Thompson
Brian Sloss Posted April 10, 2007 Posted April 10, 2007 From the Current on Tuesday evening you could head straight down 19 to the Eleven Point, Greer would be a good campsite right where you cross the river. Then take 160 over to the North Fork of the White on Thursday and then on Friday down to fish the White or Norfork tailwater near Mountain Home on Friday or 160 straight to Tany. You could get a good variety of trout water doing that route over the course of a week. www.elevenpointflyfishing.com www.elevenpointcottages.com (417)270-2497
