MOBass Posted April 24, 2007 Posted April 24, 2007 I was so caught up about posting my fishing results I forgot to post the buzz kill for the day. I put the boat on the trailer and found the small metal cap the goes on the trailer where you check the brake fluid was MIA. I would have chalked it up to being loose, but I had checked the brake fluid level before I headed down and re checked the cap when I got to the ramp to make sure it was still there. I guess someone needed it more than I did that day. Yes it is minor but it still chaps me that someone would pinch such a small item.

denjac Posted April 24, 2007 Posted April 24, 2007 That really ticks me off too. Somebody that needed it, cause thats for a bigger boat could surley afford one, but who knows. I had a trailer tag stolen off my trailer at Ruark Bluff at Stockton. A buddy of mine a few years ago went to get his truck and trailer to load up. He started the truck and headed for the ramp. He heard a crash and stopped. Someone had pulled his pin out of his hitch. I would sure like to catch some of these idiots in the act! Dennis Boothe Joplin Mo. Sam Posted April 24, 2007 Posted April 24, 2007 A friend keeps telling me I need to get a lock to lock my boat trailer to the hitch on my truck. He says boat trailers get stolen a lot at Lake of the Ozarks while people are out fishing. I haven't heard of that happening around here yet. Boy, wouldn't that be something? Imagine getting back to the ramp and finding that you can't get your boat home because you've got no trailer. I've seen those trailer locks at Lowe's for about 30 bucks, or I guess a length of chain and a padlock would do it. Still, I hate to think that locking my trailer to the truck may become necessary. On the other hand, I always leave an empty ice chest in the back of my parked truck when I'm out fishing. If I get fish, I'll drain my boat's livewell at the ramp, put the fish in the ice chest, and get a bag of ice on the way home. That way the fish stay fresh and I don't have to clean them 'til the next morning. So far, no one has taken the ice chest.
Terry Beeson Posted April 24, 2007 Posted April 24, 2007 Sam, That's only because you don't have beer iced down in it... Yep... it's a shame. Nothing is safe anywhere anymore... jdmidwest Posted April 24, 2007 Posted April 24, 2007 Don't forget to lock the receiver hitch on also. A simple padlock thru the hole in the hitch clip should work, thats what I use on my trailers. Helps to insure that it is locked on the ball good too. "Life has become immeasurably better since I have been forced to stop taking it seriously." — Hunter S. Thompson
taxidermist Posted April 25, 2007 Posted April 25, 2007 Most receiver hitchs have holes for the saftey chains, make one a bit longer and put a Materlock Padlock thru the chain links. Then the trailer is locked to the truck. I bought one of those hitch locks and honestly I think it could be defeated with a hammer and a few good strikes. I know, I could defeat it with a hatchet and a hammer
Members 713lefty Posted April 28, 2007 Members Posted April 28, 2007 I lock everything! At least make them have to fight there way in! It may discourage them, and send them to find an easier target. The longer it takes, somebody may show up and scare them off.
