Gatorjet Posted April 22, 2018 Posted April 22, 2018 Fished about 3 hours after I arrived at Lilleys Landing Wednesday afternoon 4/18. At first no luck on black/olive/ olive 1/8 oz jig. Lots of wind forced me to use the bigger jig even though generation was fairly slow. Did have a big brown well over 20" follow the jig up to the boat. But no takes. I worked that area of the bluff near Cooper Creek ramp for some time with no success. Moved down lake a ways, and changed to a olive/peach/burnt orange head jig of the same size. Ended up with four bows all in the upper 13" to just over 14" range. Four fish, 4.14 pounds. Wouldn't be a bad half of a team tournament weigh in bag. Slower fishing Thursday morinin. After trying for that big brown again, I moved on down to where I had the good fish the previous evening. One fish of the same size is all I came up with. Picked up a few 10 and under fish there, and at Monkey Island. Thursday evening, on a tip from Phil, I fished around the dredge just above the resort. Caught several, a couple close to the size I caught down lake, but just slightly smaller. As opposed to the previous day, and location when I only got hit by dragging the bottom with the jig, these fish wanted the jig swimming about 4-6 feet under the surface. Caught a few on the pink gulp worm 5' under a float. But these were even smaller. The strong winds came back Friday morning, and fishing was tough. Big bows in your line, boat moving the opposite direction from the current. All making it tough to cast, and to feel a bite. I managed one pretty good fish at Monkey Island, and one at the lower end of the Cooper Creek area. Had some friends coming down for a golf outing. Them, not me LOL. Took them out, and hit my Cooper Creek area. A few small fish, and one ortwo of the bigger ones. Moved out to the middle on the lower end where the houses start. Still bouncing the olive/peach/burnt orange jig on rhe bottom I caught a very nice bow. Probably in the 1 1/2 lb. range. Moved to Monkey Island without much success on anything but a few under 10" fish. For the last hour or so we fished around the dredge again. Caught a few more decent fish, and a few dinks. Again, swimming the jigs about 4-6 feet deep. Don't know if it makes a lot of difference, but I will mention it. The only line I use for straight line jigging is 2# Maxima Ultra Green.
