denjac Posted May 8, 2007 Posted May 8, 2007 Hope we are not getting ready for another flood like 93. Things are shaping up that way. Ex wife lives in Wathena Kansas across the river from St Joe missouri. She had to evacuate this week end. They are prepared to blow the levee there in hopes of keeping St Joe from flooding. Just remember thats the way it started in 93, floods up north lakes down here coudnt release water as it would cause worse flooding. Fished a tournament that year at red 11 on Grand. Water was 4-5 ft deep in there motel and fished in peoples back yards. All the rain that is forcasted it could turn out that way, hope not. Dennis Boothe Joplin Mo. Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted May 8, 2007 Root Admin Posted May 8, 2007 "Fished a tournament that year at red 11 on Grand. Water was 4-5 ft deep in there motel " That's why we didn't buy Red 11 back in 1979... we looked seriously at it but the mold and threat of flooding every 4-5 years made it an easy decision. Did catch a bunch of crappie off their dock while camping at the resort (they weren't open so I stayed in a popup in the parking lot).
Wayne SW/MO Posted May 8, 2007 Posted May 8, 2007 That whole area went under in '51 and aside from levee's, there's not much more flood control in the area. There are some dams on the Mo up north, but I don't know if that changes anything historically? Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
