1992 evenrude (tracker) 60hp controls

My inlaws had been having some motor troubles on there boat. Finally got them straightened out the last trip out, UNTIL! We were getting ready  to  leave from the ramp to go fish and had  to fast idle it cause the motor was cold.  Tried to get the fast idle back in place and when he went to put it in gear Pow a piece of the shifter broke off and stuck full throttle.  To wrap it up they are looking for a set of controls to replace them. Is there a style they can replace them with that has a better fast idle option?  Not all plastic  maybe. Comment or PM me please

Something wasn't synced proper, or it wouldn't have broke.  Be sure to do it RIGHT after it's fixed/replaced.
