Gumboot Posted May 1, 2019 Posted May 1, 2019 Wow! Lake up 5' and both the creek and river running over 10,000. We caught a bunch of spawned out crappie last week. How will a 5 to 10' rise effect those eggs? Probably not much...? MoPanfisher...why was outbound shut off?
Members Cal2 Posted May 1, 2019 Members Posted May 1, 2019 It should make for a good hatch this year.
MOPanfisher Posted May 1, 2019 Posted May 1, 2019 Gumboot, that is how the system is designed to work. Heavy rains raise the rivers, the dam shut down outflow to prevent exacerbating the flooding below the dams. Water stacks up in the lakes and when downstream conditions allow outflow us again started. How much depends on several factors such as %of flood storage being utilized by the impounded water, river conditions all the way down stream to Missour River and sometimes beyond. The level of Truman also plays into it for Pomme, there is a balance between the two that in part determines how much outflow can be released.
MrGiggles Posted May 2, 2019 Posted May 2, 2019 I took the boat out tonight. Water was high, clear with lots of debris at Wheatland, chocolate milk if you went any further south. The crappie are in full spawn, I caught jet black males in 10ft with torn up tails. Females moved in later at dusk. Water was 63 degrees, give or take. Fishing was difficult with all the bushes and vegetation on the bank. Be careful out there, lots of debris and logs floating out in the main channel. -Austin
