I'm going to have to give the vanish a try. I've been using the Rio fluorcarbon for about a year now. It has worked very well for me but it is really pricey in my opinion.

I was introduced to Frog Hair fluorocarbon this spring and like it. Although, I have gotten in the habit of running fluro through my fingertips regardless of brand. I don't know if it is a quirk of the manufacturing or I have bad luck in picking my tippet spools. I will occassionally find a "bump" in the line almost like a wind knot. Some of them are visual and some not. I don't know if that bump hurts anything, but I don't take the chance. The other thing is I really have to be careful when I cinch down the knot. Without lubrication, the tippet looks like a pig's tail. That may be true on any floro brand. As far as strength, I have seen some 12# plus fish landed on 6X FH. Keep us informed on the Vanish.

Any other new reports on Vanish? I bought a spool and plan to try it soon.

What are your favorite tippets and why?

I usually start with Seguar Carbon Pro 4 lb test for economical reasons if there is a chance trout are not line shy. If necessary, I then prefer Rio Fluoroflex 6X. Finally, if needed, I will drop down to Rio Fluoroflex 7X. I finally tried 8X a few weeks ago and had many strikes and many breakoffs. I went back to 7X and did alright. My friend caught just as many on 6x that day at Roaring River.

Orvis Mirage 6x is alright but their 7x breaks off alot more than Rio 7x. I've also found that the last several wraps of tippet on the spool seems compromised and I experience more breakoffs with this section of line regardless of what brand I use.

I started using Vanish when it came out. I mentioned it to other fishermen a few times but whenever I did I would get one of this 'you do what!' looks - so I quit mentioning it. I works far better than anything I have ever used for tippit or leader material. Sorry, I dont know the name of the knot I use to tie my leaders. It is one I was shown by a pro fisherman years ago. He never mentioned the name of the knot. It works good so I have used it ever since.

I would rather be fishin'.

I can only seem to find Vanish in 6lb. I've wanted it for my spinning rod that light, too. I noticed Berkley makes a Vanish saltwater tippet and it starts at 10 and goes 100lb. I'd guess it's the same stuff as the big spools

Anyone have experience w/ the Bass Pro brand fluro? Kevin Van Dam claims he uses it on the BASS tour.

I've used the Bass Pro Flouro down to 4lb and had good luck, but I prefer the Orvis 7x

I have tried both the bass pro and cabela's brand of fluoro and found both to be a bit brittle. Particularly in cold weather. That was a couple of years ago though - it may be improved now. The Rio is the only other fluoro I've tried besides the Vanish.

Vanish - I found some 2 lb at the Bass Pro at the landing in Branson. For some reason the one in Spfld doesn't have it. I think Phil is right in that it is much stronger than 2 lb. The diameter is about the same as Rio 5X fluoro. It (the Vanish) seems like good stuff. I wish it came in a little smaller diameter. I use 6X most of the time.

I've been using Vanish for leader and tippet since last year. The breaking strength is much better than Rio or one of the other tippets. Plus it doesn't seem to pigtail as bad.

I don't plan on changing! I catch as many fish as I did, if not more!
