skeeter Posted June 8, 2007 Posted June 8, 2007 Last weekend my Son caught this monster of ( what he thought was ) a white on a spook over in Red Barn and brought it into the dock in the livewell for admiration, pictures and weighing. He pulled the fish out of the well thinking he had some sort of MO State record and darned if it wasn't a wiper or hybrid that weighed 6 pounds and was a really beautiful fish. Now I have never heard of or read about MDC stocking hybrids in TR but am wondering if this fish could have come through the dam at Beaver by some magic ? I know AR stocks Beaver with Stripers, do they stock hybrids too ? Any of you Arkansas residents know ? We set her/him free and it's swimming in the Baxter area.
Quillback Posted June 8, 2007 Posted June 8, 2007 They do put Hybrids in Beaver, I think on an every other year basis.
Members RonS. Posted June 9, 2007 Members Posted June 9, 2007 Not sure how often they stock them in beaver or how they get into Missouri But I do know that above Holiday Island all the way up to Beaver dam you can find the stripers ,Hybrids along with the whites .
Wayne SW/MO Posted June 9, 2007 Posted June 9, 2007 Biologist say that one of the drawbacks to Striper's, and their hybrids, is that they naturally wander. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
Sam Posted June 9, 2007 Posted June 9, 2007 Back when the spring white bass run in the James River arm was good, 10 years or so ago - there'd be a few hybrids mixed with the white bass every year. The biggest one I caught near Galena back then was about 6 lbs., and the stripe pattern showed it was a hybrid. I don't know how the stripers or hybrids got into Tablerock to cause that, but there's obviously a few in there.
skeeter Posted June 10, 2007 Author Posted June 10, 2007 Thanks for the replies folks. Guess they are making it through the gates/generators at Beaver. Don't know what effect they would have on TR if MDC stocked them since they're mules and can't reproduce but according to my Son they can really put a bend in your pole and that ain't all bad !
slider Posted June 12, 2007 Posted June 12, 2007 I ALWAYS THOUGHT IT WOULD BE A GOOD IDEA TO PUT THEM IN THE ROCK. WHEN WE ARE FISHING FORE WHITES AT GALENA WE HALF TO PUT UP WITH THEM SHOKING THE WHITES FORE THE EGGS TO PRODUCE THE HYBREDS WE SHOULD BE ABLE TO HAVE THEM TO FISH AT. WE CATCH THEM AT WARSAW AND THEY ARE A BLAST. SLIDER DONT EVER GIVE UP MOSES WAS A BASKET CASE ONCE!
Members Scarecrow Posted June 12, 2007 Members Posted June 12, 2007 Have battled the Hybrid for a lot of years back home. They can pull with the best of them and they never give up. Have netted two fish around the 15lbs range. Both were on the line for at least 20 minutes. Puts fisherman and tackle to the test.
