Odd pedestal seat post question of the day

Anyone ever cut a fixed height post in half? Have a project in mind, but I need one about 8" shorter than a regular fixed post.

Or a gas one for that matter? Although I assume that's a terrible idea.

Yes but the old type with the black plastic wedge at the bottom

This is a Ranger style post, the big round one with the push button.
