Maybe I'm just being an butt....but a good job of "hand landing" the fish (any fish) is part of the skill that makes a flyfisher what he is.

If I said that those boga's and similar gadgets are "Yuppy flyfisher" toys...would y'all think poorly of me ? Cuz we can't have that B)

Well, I better disagree with you there wrench. Saying using a gadget to land fish is cheating is akin to saying using a reel to catch fish is cheating. Boca Grip devices allow you to lip a fish without making hand to fish contact, which does not remove slime coat. Better for fish! Also, the Boca (or other similar devices) has built in measuring and weight, allowing an angler to land, weigh, measure, and release a fish very quickly.

John, you caught a very large trout at RR last spring and you had it out of the water what 30 sec? We all got a good look, and you got a weight and measure.

Just out of curiosity, anyone used one of the ones similar to the Boca made by different manufacturers? Boca Grips are outrageous, but Rapala and others make units for less than half the price. Many with similar features. But do they work as well??

I must say that I really enjoy my Boca Grip. It's quick and easy and makes returning the fish "all but" harmless. Your right, they are expensive, but this was a splurge from the slush fund that I saved up for. I've not tried any of the others, but I did look at them when I was deciding what type to get. After looking and talking with others that used the Boca I opted for it.

And; No, I don't hold nothing against ya wrench for your thoughts. I'm a bit of a gadget guru and enjoy them.
