Members KCfisher
Anyone have a report on the river (flow and clarity) for this week? The stretch from Bennett to Barclay is what I am interested in. Thanks in advance.
fishinwrench
It has stabilized enough to be good....but don't load the car yet... here comes more rain.
BrianK
Well at least the Niangua isn't getting overfished this year! Haven't been on it since April but looks like it's been flooded so frequently that it's kept the fishing pressure down. Hope to get on it last wknd of June. fishinwrench
It's lookin' good today (a little cloudy, and still a bit high...'bout perfect). The water feels awfully warm..... good for Smallies & Goggleye...bad for trout. The Trout I caught today didn't fight as hard as usual, and none of them even attempted to jump. Strikes were half-hearted and hard to detect, and once hooked they were sluggish. I'm gonna blame it on the warm runoff. I gotta take this opportunity to piss and moan about the jetboats. I don't like seeing them on the Niangua, and they are getting more frequent as time goes on. Got checked for my permit today by MDC....after they blasted through the run I was fishing...TWICE! How can they successfully enforce game laws from a darn jetboat? I mean, you can hear them coming from 3 miles away....and the last few "OFFICER/AGENTS" I've seen are NOT experienced river-jet operators, by any stretch of the imagination. (I specifically LOOKED for a PFD in the boat....they might have been stuffed somewhere, but I couldn't see them). Sorry, but IMO this is ignorant. Plus, from the boat operating "skill" I have seen...it's just a matter of time before one of these "agents" mow over a swimmer, fisherman, or a canoe. What a nasty headline that would be...if it didn't get "covered up".
Members KCfisher
Thanks for the reports, wrench. I am hoping to get down there middle of next week. I know I have (unfortunately for me) contributed to the lack of pressure this spring. I am usually good for half a dozen or so trips by now, but just haven't found the time when the weather was cooperating. I have to agree with you about the boats; I have noticed them more and more, but never an agent. What amazes me is the seeming attitude that because they have bigger equipment, they have the "right of way". What ever happened to letting a guy finish a run before blowing through? They could at least get through a little slower. On a more up beat note, have you found any good smallies this spring? If so, what type of water? I am not asking for any of your "honey holes". Thanks.
fishinwrench
Not really, not in the Niangua anyway...I've pretty much been targeting the trout still. With the water heating up though, that is about to change. Been hitting the LO tribs for Smallies some, but nothing spectacular to report.

It doesn't become a big deal until a law enforcement officer gets run over by a civilian, then it is a crisis. Somehow I thought they were out there to 'protect and serve' not terrorize but, what do I know. I would rather be fishin'. "Democracy is two wolves and a lamb voting on what to have for lunch. brownieman
I can't imagine...jet boats have no place on a stream this small and have to be planed out to run the shallows. You're exactly right on the enforcement of laws...but face it, if it weren't for the jet boats (bought with our tax dollars) they would have to paddle a canoe...thats work and would make sense...the MDC's job is to waste...if they tear up their toys we buy them new ones. He was probably just taking his wife/girlfriend for a ride, you got in his way so he showed off by checking you...let me ask, was there a female in uniform in the boat? The only thing that surprises me is their jet boats aren't air conditioned...yet, lol...like you said, you can hear them coming 3 miles away...might as well blow a foghorn to let the violators know they are coming...very effective tool huh. Least in the jet boats on a hot day they can catch a breeze...hard work to paddle a canoe that fast...that state sweat, well, we pay a hefty price for it. My friends say I'm a douche bag ?? fishinwrench
Funny you should ask Brownieman, there was a girl with him....and NO she was not in uniform. She was more like..... dressed for a picnic actually. LOL Is "dating while you work" a common thing.... Like a state employee perk, or something ?
