Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted October 27, 2005 Root Admin Posted October 27, 2005 Are zebra midges taking over their rival - the "jig-n-float" method of fishing? Most of the guides now fish spin-tackle and fish a zebra midge under a float more than a jig and are very successful- anywhere on the lake. Just a couple of weeks ago, a zebra midge caught a 14 pound rainbow... nothing to sneeze at!!
Seth Posted October 28, 2005 Posted October 28, 2005 I never have done that great with zebra midges down there, must not be doing something right. A pink micro underneath an indicator is what I have done the best drifting from a boat with.
jOrOb Posted October 29, 2005 Posted October 29, 2005 I am with you Seth, I have never scored big on a Zebra. I have been with others when they were cleaning up on them, but I was just snapping tippets and drifting along. I know that they will and do catch a lot of fish, I just need to learn them better. Still flinging. jOrOb jOrOb "The Lord has blessed us all today... It's just that he has been particularly good to me." Rev MacLean
Members John Smoot Posted October 29, 2005 Members Posted October 29, 2005 My last time at Taney (1st week of October), I caught the largest majority of fish on various zebra midge patterns. The 2 best were the 'Ugly', tied by a guide at Rivers Run (I think), which is a gold bead head, green body, some red just below the head, and wrapped in gold wire, and a black bead head with a silver head and silver wire wrap. I caught fish with them both drifting from the boat and wading. I did not catch a single brown on a midge, though.
Wayne SW/MO Posted October 29, 2005 Posted October 29, 2005 All stages of Midge fishing have been effective at times for me. They are something I turn too, from bottom to top, when my favorites go south. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
