jcoberley Posted July 2, 2007 Author Posted July 2, 2007 brownieman, I just wanted to know about what land they have used the money for location and usability! I am not asking of anything hard to expalne or am I. Maybe their afraid to explain or ashamed of where the money has went. Never the less I get the feeling that there needs to be some serious watching and explaning done and maybe even a class action filed. Their should not be anything to hide! JMO Fish slow and easy! hank franklin Posted July 3, 2007 Posted July 3, 2007 I spent about two minutes on google and came up with this link showing every state of Missouri audit done on MDC in the past several years. I'm sure a few more minutes could produce current and past budgets, etc. etc. etc. If you want to get informed, get informed. If you can't find the information you're looking for, ask for help. The Missouri "Blue Book" lists every salary for every state employee in Missouri. Etc. etc. etc......

If you ask someone in the MDC what it means you get the run around or get an answer like your post. A lot of talk but nothing is really said. I would rather be fishin'. Members bryantsmallie28 Posted July 3, 2007 Members Posted July 3, 2007 It would seem to me like if MDC is making you this mad you would be smart enough to do something besides fuss on a fishing report forum. You sure are getting a whole lot done there. I have a whole lot of complaints about the way they do things too. But they do a lot of things right too. I mean to be honest i am trying to get a job with them or something along those lines and they do a lot of dumb stuff that makes me mad. But here i am with a college degree barely making enough to pay my gas and live a normal life, while there are tons of people making a lot better living than me doing nothing but popping out a kid a year and living on the government. There are a whole lot worse uses of our tax money than what MDC uses their small chunk for. You are wanting to konw what land they purchase go on the MDC website and find the commission meeting notes and they state for the last year every parcel of land added whether it be via donation or purchase. And sorry but thats freaking crazy to expect your daily limits to go up because they make more money. As far as im concerned they could totally do away with trout but do i get on a website and endlessly complain. ummm no. go ahead and bash me all you want but you just fit the mold of what a guy told me not long ago about managing the conservation lands. He said its harder to get anything done because everybody has a computer now and thinks they know everything about everything. They want to know why you do anything whether it be something as small as moving one small rock or as big as a whole timber stand improvement, and have their imput on it. If you had to wait for everyone in the state to put their imput on anything you would never get anything done. He said no matter what, everyone thinks they are smarter than you are and they tell you everything you do wrong, you just have to keep doing what you know is the right way to do things because for every vocal person that is wrong there are many others who enjoy what you have done.
jcoberley Posted July 3, 2007 Author Posted July 3, 2007 bryantsmallie28, You may be right. But if it wasn't for people saying someting there would not be any controls. If we the taxpayers just sit back and never said anything or voted this country would not be here! Belive me I have talked to a lot of ppl and wrote a lot of letters. Hel if we were not vocal we would still be British! Do you want you money going to Brazil???? If you do then please feel free to go there!!! Oh BTW thanks for the tip on commission meeting notes, I will be reading them! Someone needs to keep an eye open. Fish slow and easy! Borrowed this one from..........Well you know who! brownieman Posted July 3, 2007 Posted July 3, 2007 Just my opinion, JC, they should be willing to supply the information you request...it's our dollars, they should be able to explain to us where they are spent...the info is available to us but well cloaked and too often the issues are side stepped. Let me put it like this... the crux of the bisquit is the apostrophe...you know what I mean? Brysmallie, IMO, I reflect your thoughts and feelings...where tax dollars are used for revenue the system generally runs amuck, plain and simple. The internet allows people to find info and use that info to be arguementive towards almost any service rendered they are responsible to pay for...gives the non knowing a know it all attitude...have encountered this during many job arenas in my life. At least most of these matters are concerning their own monies...trying on their part in this world as it is today to spend wisely. IMO that's all that anyone wants...if you give your kids, spouse, neigbor, friend, etc money you want to make sure it is being used wisely or you will be hesitant to give it again, right? Most things these days...well... simple matters are over complicated to the point of ignorance, over talked, over studied...imo it's totally rediculous. Most talk the talk but don't walk the walk. Like I have stated before...many things in this world are on the endangered list...If it is on the endangered list it will be studied till it's extinct....ALL TALK, NO ACTION...it's a trend that is destroying everything from a little darter in an ozark stream to mankind itself...it saddens me, but...it is what it is...we have to deal with it the best way we can...there will always be actions we don't agree with...the only control we have is how we react to these actions. Empathy, humanity, logic...many values seem to have been lost in the clutter these days. My friends say I'm a douche bag ?? Avatar...mister brownie bm <><
Gavin Posted July 3, 2007 Posted July 3, 2007 Access to the information you want should be available, but it sounds like your expecting to much from their annual report. I'm a CPA by trade, I've done my share of auditing, and written more than a few annual reports..Annual reports are just a summary of what the organization did that year, nothing more..If you want specific details you need to ask the right people. A inquiry to a clerk on the MDC website isnt going to get you much, most employees dont have a clue about budgets, expenditures, etc..If you want hard facts, make inquiries to the bosses.. MDC is organized into several departments. Fisheries, Forestry, Enforcement, etc...And the managers of those departments are the ones you need to talk to if you have specific questions about what they spent on fisheries, forestry, etc...I'm sure they would be glad to forward you budgets and financial statments for whatever you want. They arent hiding anything...you just havent expended the effort to get your questions answered. Cheers.
jcoberley Posted July 3, 2007 Author Posted July 3, 2007 Many times we role over and say oh well nothing I can do about it. Well my friends thats why we have issues. We the people need to stand up for what it right, and stop the waste, payoffs, raping our natural resourses, using it all today and not caring about tomorrow just has to stop. I know a lot of people get tired of hearing someone complain about something but it gets peoples eyes open to where they pay a little more attention. If you went to get your car repaired and was told it would be 50000.00 would you just blindly pay it with out asking questions and see for your self if maybe there is someone cheeper. Or would you just pay it? Maybe you would just replace it. PEOPLE PLEASE WATCH WHATS GOING... OH AND DONT FORGET TO VOTE!!!!! Fish slow and easy! Borrowed this one from..........Well you know who! gonefishin Posted July 3, 2007 Posted July 3, 2007 Gavin: I am not that mad at MDC. They are a taxing the public and I think they should be open about what they are doing with our tax dollars. You, being a CPA may know the questions to ask and who to ask them of and if so good for you. I am not a trained CPA and am asking for simple answers. I have asked at MDC but there are no answers only double talk. Unlike you I think a public forum is the perfect place to discuss this. Maybe a few other people will call or email and ask them what they are doing with the money. Maybe make them realize people want them to be a good steward of the tax dollars given to them. Here are a few things we do know: MDC received (Leaving out income from license fees) A special tax that is generating an additional 100 million dollars a year What are taxpayers getting in return A pretty propaganda sheet Update of Shepard of the Hills fish hatchery A few new access points Higher license fees for fishing Lower trout limits Higher fees at the Trout Parks Higher fees to camp Otters Black Bear Cougars Just seems a bit lopsided to me.
