Thom Posted June 27, 2007 Posted June 27, 2007 I'll start a new topic with an alternative motive. My grandson and I will be at Lilly's for a week in late July. I am hoping that the fishing conditions are good and the fish are hungry. I will probally start out with Zebra midges and then go to small 1/100 olive or brown mini jigs 1/100, hares ears or egg flys. If the fishing is slow what would be your go to fly. We will be tying our own flies and fishing the restricted water most of the time or at short creek area. Suggestions on your best results of flys, method, area etc. If all else fails what is your go to fly? Thom Harvengt
strangercreek Posted June 28, 2007 Posted June 28, 2007 Olive/partridge 18 soft hackle, this is the fly I have caught the most fish on at Taney, stripping or nymphing with it.

Snow Fly Posted June 28, 2007 Posted June 28, 2007 Here Leonard, Leonard, OH Leonard where are you??????????????????????????????????????????????? "God gave fishermen expectancy, so they would never tire of throwing out a line"
Danoinark Posted June 28, 2007 Posted June 28, 2007 Olive/partridge 18 soft hackle, this is the fly I have caught the most fish on at Taney, stripping or nymphing with it. I will agree with strangercreek. Most of my Taney fish are caught on an olive and partridge soft hackle on the swing or stripped. Dano Glass Has Class "from the laid back lane in the Arkansas Ozarks"
troutchaser Posted June 28, 2007 Posted June 28, 2007 I'm in with strangercreek and Dano. You just can't beat the olive softhackle. I'd add #16 Griffith's Gnats. Late July is a good time for terrestrials, too. Foam ants are my favorites. Paul Rone

Micheal Kyle Posted June 28, 2007 Posted June 28, 2007 I love the Soft Hackle if there is however just a little chop on the water and the fish are midging. Put a #12 crackle back on and strip, strip, strip, until you get tried of catching fish. Now the reason I fish a crackle back this way is because I think that it imitates a whole group of midges that are stuck together and it's like giving a kid a carrot or a candy bar. 99% of the kids will take a candy bar. The set up consist of a floating line, 9-12' leader(5x-6x) and 1 crackle back in a Size 12. I like the olive and then if that color is not working go to a pale yellow. You want the fly only to be down about 4-6". You will see a wake then feel a tug. Good Luck If night fishing Mohair leech in various colors. To Know People Is To Know Thier Ways!
