Branson TU

What is the status of the group? I was just wondering if its worthwhile to drive up from Harrison to attend.

Also is there any interest in forming an FFF affiliated flyfishing club in the North Ark / Southern Mo region.

It seems a shame to not have a powerful club in the region. Anyone want to start discussing this?

A few of us started the TU chapter 12-14 years ago. The same guys have lead it for most of those years and got burned out. No one has picked it back up... yet.

TU Missouri is talking about merging all the chapters into one- KC, Mid-Mo and Meramec, the Meramec hasn't been active for quite some time. Not sure what that will do- for Branson anyhow.

I'd like to start meetings back up but just not right now. I'm part of a very small group that's trying to build a 6.6m YMCA facility right now and my time is taxed too much. But there may be others................

I live in SE Kansas, about three hours from Taney, but I'd love to see some type of club formed. The drive time would prohibit alot of activity for me. Monthly meetings shouldn't be a problem if they were on weekends. But that usually is not the case for club meetings. Anyway, I would be happy to participate if time and travel allowed.

Thanks Phil and KFF...It just has been in the back of my mind that there is an abundance of talent in the area and on this board, people who are conservation minded, those great with planning outings and club gatherings, experienced casters, those that tie dynamic patterns and just people who are generally friendly, social. A club with these components would thrive because of these reasons. I do know that clubs can make a big difference on how a fishery can survive and how clubs can be a strong lobby for its rivers.

I don't know the first thing about starting one of these clubs our associating with FFF, but I do know I am willing to work with others to get something in the works or at least sit down and discuss the feasibility of it.

I am interested. You and I have discussed this many times and I too think it is a great idea. Now all we need is someone who knows what the *&^% they are doing.

Lets go fishing!

You know, its kinda funny that the Branson T/U chapter is now " defunct ".

There really are a lot of people who do want to keep something going.

Politics aside.. its just difficult to get people to show up to meetings.

I would like to do a river - clean up sometime soon, something that if I had a venue (like tu or fff) to get volunteers.. it would go over well. But as it stands now.. I have nowhere to look.

I am going to post a thread on the LT board right now.. hoping that you guys (and all who read) will attend.

I often wonder if a national organization is the way to go, or is an area focus best. An area focus, say the highlands of AR, MO, and OK where the Fish close to the hearts of fly fishermen, Smallies and Trout, reside?

An Area focus can, or should, let politicians at all levels know they are truly hearing from voters. An area focus can be more attractive to those that don't feel they have the time or ability to address problems facing every area of the nation.

Brian if you keep reminding me, and the good Lord's willing, I will be at the clean up. Great idea.

Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.

Wayne I think I have to agree with you. Anytime you have locals involved in the local project I do believe it carries more weight. I would envision that the type of club I am speaking about would be just that.

I think there is some clout with being affiliated with say the FFF too.

Here are the requirements to become a charter FFF club.

It sure is not something we would have to do. I think just forming a local club without affiliation would also be just as strong and worthwhile to our area fishery's.

I'm not pushing TU here- want you to know that. But the reason we started a TU chapter here and not a FFF chapter is because there are higher-ups in MDC that are TU and have helped us with issues here on Taney in the past. BUT, saying that, it doesn't bode well that the chapter has gone nill and not much has been done to help it.

I have heard of groups affiliatied with both organizations.

I do believe there can be alot accomplished in education from a group like this. And it can be an influence on some issues on Taney but for the most past, MDC does what they want to do regardless what the public says. The limit change is an example.

I'm open to whatever.
