Members Honey Butter Bum Posted January 5, 2021 Members Posted January 5, 2021 I am looking to buy a power tilt trim jack plate for my 16×48 shawnee with an 07 Yamaha 25hp 2 st. I am looking at cmc and other brands, but wanted to see if anyone had any opinions on which jack plate is best for that motor/boat size and any other important info. I am new to the game of tiller motors, so anything I should look out for would be great info. Thanks!
fishinwrench Posted January 5, 2021 Posted January 5, 2021 Tilt/trim, and Jackplate are two different things. Tilt/trim allows adjusting your motor angle on the fly. A Jackplate allows adjusting your motor height in relation to the transom. For a 25hp on a Shawnee I think the benefit would be overshadowed by the negatives. Either is going to set your motor back 8-10" allowing a 1-2" higher setup..... but you don't gain anything because that means the motor is going to dig a deeper hole trying to get up on plane. We're not talking about a performance hull here. A 25 isn't that heavy so just use your tilt pin (set it and forget it). Setting the motor back on a tiller motor is also going to make manual starting and sharp turns more difficult for you.....unless your arms are longer than normal people.
Members Honey Butter Bum Posted January 5, 2021 Author Members Posted January 5, 2021 That makes sense and is the exact information I was needing. I am very new to this style of boat, so I'm sure I'll have more stupid questions. I appreciate the help.
fishinwrench Posted January 5, 2021 Posted January 5, 2021 No such thing as a stupid question. Have fun with your project. 👍
