Kill switch not working

I have a 2003 40hp Yamaha tiller outboard. When I pull kill switch lanyard the motor keeps running. I can push down on button and then it stops. Is there a repair or do I need to replace. If I need a replacement is this something I can do or take it to a mechanic. Thanks for your help.

The kill switch is bad.  Replacing isn't too difficult, just pay close attention to the way things are situated when you split the control box in half.
