Members Terrapin Station Posted July 24, 2007 Members Posted July 24, 2007 I hear ya. It is what it is...you pay 50 bucks at the door and with a wink and a nod you get your rod bent for as long as you want. I do go for the fix once a year or every other year. But afterwards, I usually feel cheap and dirty ;-) I haven't been since the new ownership, but it looks like they are pumping some serious cash into the place. I do think they'll do quite well however. Especially with the corporate retreat angle. Just thinkin' that most of us aren't the target market...
dave potts Posted July 24, 2007 Author Posted July 24, 2007 JR and Terrapin, Was that Windrush or Westover you were fishing. One is south of Steelville and the other is south of St James at a small town called Cook Station. Dave
Members Terrapin Station Posted July 24, 2007 Members Posted July 24, 2007 Oooops, sorry Dave. Guess we went off on a tangent. I've fished both quite a few times over the years. Yes, Windrush is near Cook Station and owned by the Drennans and well worth visiting. IMO I've always preferred Windrush for its natural stream setting. The place formerly known as Springrise always felt too manicured for my tastes. Kinda like fishin on a golf course. Looks like they are closed until September 14 and then only open on Fri-Sat-Sun. http://www.windrushfarms.com/
Randall Posted July 25, 2007 Posted July 25, 2007 just checked westover out, and i can't say i'm impressed with their shooting operation, but the stream looks pretty nice and i wouldn't mind fishing it. $50 for a day of fishing is just real hard for me to justify right now. Cute animals taste better.
patfish Posted July 25, 2007 Posted July 25, 2007 Randall, did you go by there? I know what you mean about parting with $50, that's a tough one to take. Just wondering, Thanks.
vanven Posted July 25, 2007 Posted July 25, 2007 I am pretty interested in both places as well. They are considerably closer to Kansas City than some of the other options. I dont mind the $50. Sometimes paying an extra $50 in gas to drive another couple hours, only to end up with 3 fish stings the ego. It is the type of place I would take a friend that is starting to show interest in fly fishing. Generally I am done early or sight fishing the bigger fish and I get to teach a bit. Hopefully I can get them hooked and then move them out to Taney for a weekend. Every year Windrush seems to peak my interest about this time of year when I am starting to plan fall trips to Taney for the browns. I start to get that itch, I check their site, and they are closed for 2 months.... -Jerod
3wt Posted August 15, 2007 Posted August 15, 2007 vanven, You wouln't be saving much time from KC to hit either of those places rather than Montauk/upper current or closer yet, the upper Meremac.
