Thom Posted July 23, 2007 Posted July 23, 2007 I will be at Taney staying at Lilly's next week (Jul18-aug6). What Flies are working and any recommendations for those of you lucky guys that are there all the time. I am tying some Mini jigs, Hare's ears, soft hackles, egg flys and zebra midges. These always seem to work. Any ideas on colors or sizes would be greatly appreciated. My 12 year old grandson Zach will be with me and we will be fishing out of a pro crappie tracker. Stop us and say hi if you see us. I probally will be wearing a oranger OAF hat most of the time. Thom Harvengt
Thom Posted July 23, 2007 Author Posted July 23, 2007 Wasn't sure this posted because I got an error message when retrieving. Thom Harvengt
twosets Posted July 24, 2007 Posted July 24, 2007 I was down the 13th thru the 15th and fished mostly the restricted waters between fall creek and lookout and caught fish on the usual suspects (micro jigs, olive, white and pink) (midges either black with silver or red size 12 thru 16, actually may have done better with the larger size) (scuds grey size 14) It was very difficult when the sun hit the water (about 10:30 am to about 4:00pm) if there was no wind to disturbe the water. We got bit only when there was a ripple when it was bright. In retrospect, we should have maybe gone downstream and hit some deeper water (say, short creek area) in the late mornings and afternoons. If your grandson can throw a jig (1/16 of 1/32)on a spinnig rod, I would try the areas above fall creek on the left side as you are going up toward lookout from 630 pm till dusk. Good Luck "This is not Nam. This is bowling. There are rules."
Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted July 24, 2007 Root Admin Posted July 24, 2007 Dries along the banks... drop a zebra under it 12 inches. Stimulators, humpies and caddis- may be a hopper. Black #18 zebra. 6x would work but have a spool of 7x ready just in case they get picky (for the dropper).
Bill Babler Posted July 24, 2007 Posted July 24, 2007 Lots of fish in the Cooper Creek area. Fish pink micro's until the sun hits the water, then move to the restricted area. Size 16 to 18 black crome head midges fished as Phil said under a dry are doing very well until about 11 Am. Then go to the house. http://whiteriveroutfitters.com http://whiteriverlodgebb.com
Thom Posted July 24, 2007 Author Posted July 24, 2007 Thanks two sets, Phis and Bill. Zack and I are preparing our arsenal. I have tied several of the kinds of flies mentioned and a couple of new flies that I have been expemminting with. The last time I was down at Branson someone ripped off my soft side tackle box with my boat cache of flies. I lost about 10 fly boxes with most of my favorite stuff ( I calculated 6 or 7 hundred flies) so I will have to tie or buy for this trip. One thing that wasn't mentioned was San Jaun worms. I have tied a few since they are easy. Are they working and what colors? Thom Harvengt
twosets Posted July 25, 2007 Posted July 25, 2007 Thom Do like Phil and Bill say. Good luck. Red worms are always good, I caught some on red wire worms. Give us a report when you get back. George "This is not Nam. This is bowling. There are rules."
