Trav Posted December 14, 2007 Posted December 14, 2007 I have had problem with animals on my dock for decades. Eating boat cushions, digging foam, crapping all over the place, even giving birth and leaving thier young for me to find. The biggest problem is Otters. The mink are pretty weary, but leave some left over lunch on the boat and the coons will rip open your tarp to get it. Here is what I have done in the past. Fencing, trapping, shooting(when in season), and even deficating on the bank to ward them off.HAHA None of it really worked. They are very persistant. Finally I just started training dogs. Am on my 4th dog in 20 years and she is the best yet. She is almost 2 years old and is extremely ruthless to any critter that comes on my property. My 2nd redbone and first female. I also had a treeing walker before the redbones and believe it or not, started with a basset hound. If a dog kills out of season she dont know any better,(trust me, I dont see most of what she gets), so you have year round control, and yes, after awhile the critters get the point and just stay away. Problem solved. "May success follow your every cast." - Trav P. Johnson
