Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted August 17, 2007 Root Admin Posted August 17, 2007 Ever shopped at Micro Center? Denver had one. I've never been in a computer store you could literally buy all the components for any computer, plus tons of other pieces and parts. I picked up a web cam- a Swann Maxi Day/Night Cam for $129.99. And a KWorld DVD Maker which is a video interface for video into a PC. I've been trying to figure out the best way to connect a camera to a PC without cards- cause I don't have enough space for the cameras I need. I'll have to figure out an adaptor for the camera to the PC- shouldn't be too hard. May have it up and running by the weekend... we'll see. Still have the software problem on my main PC with the webcam program- will have to try another box for it. Problem is the extra box has windows 2000 on it which some software programs don't like. Too many varibles. But I'm working on it.
strangercreek Posted August 24, 2007 Posted August 24, 2007 The one in Kansas City does a ton of business. We use them when we don't have something on hand. Sometimes good to know what you are looking for as the staff isn't always that informed (to be expected though with so many products). They do carry just about anything you can think of though.... They also keep some products around that are thought to be outdated by other retailers or distributors (PCI cards, SDRAM, regular DDR memory, IDE drives, etc) They open 10:00am and there is always a parking lot full of folks waiting to get in (most for business purposes I am sure) As far as your camera, there are models out there (not sure about the one you bought) that can be put on a network, given an IP address, and then managed with a web interface, that way you only have a power cord and network cable plugged into it (unless it is power over ethernet, then just a network cable). They are really easy to set up and eliminate a local PC connection. Many office environments use them as auxillary security cameras, video projects, and other stuff
