Curious if any of you live-bait guys have used Black Salty's...

I've heard you can't kill the things...and you can use them on the surface all the way down to 60 feet deep and throw them back in your tank if they don't get eaten before your done fishin....and they stay as lively as the day they were born...

Thought about giving them a try.

Hey SK,

Never heard of them, minnows I take it?

Sounds great to me, I know some don't care for various reasons for bait fishing but I enjoy fishing and CATHING fish...over the years the power of live bait has proved itself time and time again...but it is a pain in the butt to get sometimes and a hassle to keep alive.

post up with what they are, finding them, etc.

This will tell you all you need to know......live bait shipped to your doorstep that are so frisky they explode out of the bags when you open them to put in your tank. Sounds like a plan to me? :goodjob:

Shad are such a nuisance to catch and keep alive...plus they stink up your tank and die after 20 minutes on the hook.

Looks like there some kind of hybrid goldfish (Carp). I'm sure they would catch fish, but I wouldnt fish with them because I wouldnt want to introduce another species of carp into the waters that I fish. Cheers.

In the lakes that we fish I can't see a problem with a minnow that gets up to a max 8 inches being much of a nuisance fish...but we mostly fish lakes that have walleye/stripers/hybrids that can easily eat an 8 inch minnow. I never have really worried about minnows that I use becoming a nusiance...but who knows.

very interesting,

most hybrids have very low reproductive capability, don't know about these...they do appear to look like a carp/minnow hybrid or something, would like to know more.

if an adult is small the only eco-system impact i could see would be the consumption of various fish spawns and planktons and other small forages...as for them they would become forage themselves for larger species.

i believe several variables would have to be considered.

so many times the introduction of non native species is not a good idea...just depends on so many factors.

most of mans efforts to change, improve, control good ole 'Mother Nature' often end up with unfavorable results even with good intent/purpose.

if they indeed stay alive as advertised I would treat myself to them on occasion, after all, it is a convenient world we pay for.

Looks way to much like a carp to me to fish in a lake that doesn't already have them. I can't see a minnow doing anything worse than what carp do.

I believe that store in Rogers is actually out of business though.

Used the off-shore angler size at Beaver Saturday and they seemed to work well. Caught 7 stripers....9 lbs and under... no bigguns. Pulled many baits off the hook and put them back in the tank for our next trip on Tuesday! Hopefully they will be biting better...we were in fish all morning....just no really steady action with the rain coming through and no 15lb + fish. Next time though...

Glad to hear you had a good day, I gotta start fishing for those things myself. How do you keep your black saltys alive at home?
