Like I said befor nice fish,

If you are to work the formula (G2)*length/800

19*19*23=8303/800=10.37lbs

That is the formula that we used when I worked at MDC

Great fish

Leonard right after you caught that fish, you said that you caught an 8 pounder. I dont know where you get 12 pounds from that. 10 lbs at the greatest and I sure dont know how you feel like you can add a couple more inches here and a couple there. Yes I'll agree that it was a nice fish. But I dont agree on your estimations.

Hey Motrout , If you read his post , He said he would catch crap for his estimation . Geesh Leonard gets slammed for even saying he might make a mistake . Give him a break , He has done nothing really to deserve any of this besides catch a fish and tell us what he was using

Yikes!!! I Hate that warning horn

this whole bashing leonard thing is becoming a joke. leonard might as well not even be on this site(since he makes up the biggest part of the night time section of this site)and he might as well not show pics, what he used, when, etc.etc. If you disagree with everything that leonard does then why even click on a thread started by leonard. its quite comical with the amount of jealousy as most of the people downing leonard probably do not have as much experience and knowledge as he does.it seems that lately everty post leonard has started, has always ended up in a bash towards him. it didnt seem like it was like this last year, but i may be wrong-i dont know

This is about enough.

If you have a problem with ANYONE on this board, have the guts to call them personally, meet them face to face and say what you type to their face.

For night time photos, if your camera doesn't have that great of a flash you can often use a flash light (Shined off of the subject you are shooting) to provide enough light to focus and shoot from.

A couple of other areas to look at, even on Point & Shoot cameras, is to check your manual settings. For night-time shots you may want to try and increase your ISO setting (which essentially is your camera's sensitivity to light) and descrease your shutter speed (which allows your camera to capture more light). You also may want to check your white balance settings (some point and shoots allow you to change this) and set it to "flash". Your camera may have a generic night-time setting (might be a picture of a moon or something) and try setting it to that and taking a few photos. the last thing to try would be to mess with your camera's onboard flash settings to see what helps and what doesn't help.

Obviously lights while night fishing, isn't always the smartest move but for photos they are generally a neccessity unless you can provide a stable camera base (e.g. tripod), remote shutter release, and about 30 minutes of shutter exposure.

I believe the naysayers suffer from a complex called bow envy! Leonard, keep on with the great posts.

Here are a couple of fish weight estimation formulas for everyone:

1. Length X Length X Girth / 1200 = Weight (Rough estimate for torpedo shaped fish)

23 X 23 X 19 / 1200 = 8.4 pounds

2. Length X Length X Girth / 1000 = Weight (Rough "California" estimate for full-bodied fish like gravid bass)

23 X 23 X 19 / 1000 = 10.1 pounds

3. Length X Girth X Girth / 800 = Weight (Rough estimate for bass, per Outdoor Life and Hal Schramm)

23 X 19 X 19 / 800 = 10.4 pounds

I'm not trying to pile on Leonard, just giving some estimation formula's that are frequently used. I think 10 pounds is a reasonable estimate. Knowing the actual girth would make the estimate more solid, but an estimate is just an estimate and no matter how you look at it, that's a good fish.
