Members wallichaser Posted September 10, 2007 Members Posted September 10, 2007 I want to make a trip up for some walleye fishing soon but am a little worried about the lake conditions after all the rain we recevied since last Wednesday....close to 8". Marty reported timber floats a week or so ago from the last rain so does anyone know what it might be like for the week of Sept10? I've seen what this type of weather does to the fishing when you get the lakes so far above flood stage. Might as well play golf. Would appriciate any current info before I make the drive up from NW Arkansas. Wallichaser
Dutch Posted September 10, 2007 Posted September 10, 2007 I may go tomorrow. What part of the lake will you be going to?
Members wallichaser Posted September 10, 2007 Author Members Posted September 10, 2007 Dutch, I will be staying at the state park and running out from there. Thanks Wallichaser
Quillback Posted September 11, 2007 Posted September 11, 2007 Hey Walli - Leave a report here if you don't mind when you're done fishing, I may be going up there myself the week of 10/8 and would like to hear how you did.
Thompson Fishing Guide Service Posted September 11, 2007 Posted September 11, 2007 Lake level is 870.75. Normal pool is 867. Err on the side of safety. Slow down and just watch for timber that may be floating in the lake. Most of it has settled down, but no matter where you fish you should always be cognizant of what may lie ahead just inches under the surface. Timber isn't the only thing you need to look out for. Giant bales of hay...not the litte square ones, the big round ones. I wonder what they weigh full of water? Because of the excessive flooding, one farmer lost 40 head of cattle (hadn't found any of them floating in the lake yet), and several have lost fields of rolled hay. And some of them are in the lake. I bet Bill Dance ain't never fished a hay bale! I went yesterday and caught 8 bass. Lost a couple of others, and plan to go when I am done writing you this email. In my experience, the rising and falling of the lake level has not affected the fish negatively at all. The reason people say it does is because for the most part, as the water goes up and down, the fish will move. Not necessarily that they won't bite. Crappie have picked up quite a bit and so have the walleye. And of course the bass fishing has been good all summer long for me. So I hope this answers your question reference golf. You can leave your fuzzy socks with the balls on the back of them in the drawer, grab your walleye rod, and CALL ME!
Dutch Posted September 11, 2007 Posted September 11, 2007 Wallichaser what kind of boat are you using. I saw several in the Big Sac today but couldn't say howdy cause there were too many choices. I went to Old State Park. I did pretty good on bass today.
Members Hooked Posted September 11, 2007 Members Posted September 11, 2007 Anyone have any tips on crappie and Walleye. My wife and I will fish stockton this weekend. I am thinking the crappie might be on bluffs about 10 to 15 feet. Hopefully tube jigs will work. Walleye, I am guessing will be on points maybe around 15 to 20 feet. I was planning on using a small deep diving shad colored crank bait. I am not much of a walleye fisherman. Will Walleye come up from 20 feet to get a crank bait at 10 to 12 feet? I don't think I have anything that will dive deeper. We always pratice catch and release... wish everyone did.
Dutch Posted September 11, 2007 Posted September 11, 2007 Hooked you might PM Hunter91. He seems to be able to catch quite a few walleye.
Members wallichaser Posted September 12, 2007 Author Members Posted September 12, 2007 Dutch, The next time you're out look for the dark green 1650 Lund with the Honda on the back. (Typical Minnesota walleye rig) Hope to be up beginning of next week. Wallichaser Quillback I'll definitely let you know on our trip up within the next few weeks. I hope to try my hand a few times before deer season begins in November up north. I mean way up north next to Lake Siberia (Superior) Good luck on the Eyes. As we all know, there's only one thing better than catchin em....that's eatin em! Wallichaser
Dutch Posted September 12, 2007 Posted September 12, 2007 I didn't see that boat today. Were you in the Big or Little Sac?
