Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted October 1, 2007 Root Admin Posted October 1, 2007 My daughter and then groom-to-be spoke at a Christian School here in town about 18 months ago on the subject of dating. Parents in attendance too. Very few accepted or agreed with the concept- even the parents. It's the old school of thought- "They're going to do it anyhow, why fight it?" or "We dated and see nothing wrong with it". But it's a trap. It promotes the wrong things, esp at an early age when kids are not even close to being of age to understand serious relationships. What's that age? I believe it's about 20! Some kids don't even reach it at 20. Some never get it. But my equation involves a God and Lord who both bow to and are accountable to. He keeps them in line if they are submitted to Him fully. Praying together (sharing hearts) and studying together is a daily growth experience.
flyfshn Posted October 1, 2007 Author Posted October 1, 2007 Phil, I am very involved and work with them every day. We have them go out in groups of friends and always know where they are. I would never say or agree with "they're going to do it anyhow, why fight it". Many of her friends were not going to the dance, so this is the first time I let them drive together and they were home by 10:30....I even drove by the school to make sure his Father's truck (that he drove) was at school. Greg Posted October 2, 2007 Posted October 2, 2007 I think the good lord knew what he was doing when he gave my wife and I two boys (no girls). The dating thing is hard with boys - I can only imagine how it is with girls. Case in point. Our youngest son (13) last year asked a girl to a middle school dance for the first time. She accepted and all was good. But during the dance when he was trying to play the gentleman - getting her punch, etc she crushed him by saying "Why are you doing all this? We are only together as friends". And it wasn't said in a nice way according to my son. It took him several months to get over that.
