Okay, I need you guys experience with graphs. Mine quit this weekend and is time to upgrade a little anyway. Man!! Have you went and looked at graphs lately, there are hundreds to choose from. Any advice on what to shy away from or to really look for? I can't afford anything really expensive but can any of you point me in the right direction. I would like to have the sensitivity to see my baits when drop shotting. Any advice from you guys that use them every day would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Lowrance 520c $649

If you want to go cheaper without gps and you don't care about color look at the Eagle 480 about $199. may be on sale at bps. It has great resolution, you can see your bait and has a proven track record.

good luck

I would second what lakebumb said. I have a Eagle 480 that I have had for a while and can dropshot well with it. I also just got the new Lowrance 520c and am trying to figure all its benefits out but I can tell you it is great so far.

You can see your baits with any machine if you have the bait in the cone. You will be able to see them better if you have a good number of pixels. I have 480X480 and really like the resolution.

If you are interested in target separation then a color unit would be a wise choice. I have moved to color and never plan to go back to B/W again.

You can go to Lowrance's website and download emulators for their machines and play around with them to see what features you like. I am not sure about the other companies.

If you are close to Springfield, George Robinson at Marine Repair Center is the most knowledgeable electronics guy I have ever talked with. Go by and have a chat with him and he can point you in the right direction. Good luck.

I think Mike Webb has said to be sure and get a unit with at least 3K watts mainly do to the depth of TR. Color is wewy, wewy nice but a B/W will do too.

If you are going to use it for drop shotting make sure you get one with with a wide transducer cone angle. There is a huge difference between wide and narrow angle transducers in how easily you can keep your bait in the visable zone.

The following link has a ton of really good information regarding how sonars work, how to use and interpret them. The chapter on cone angles is really informative as to what the cone actually is and how your sensitivity setting affects if.

Guys, if you are considering new electronics, I would wait till the first of November. Rumor has it a 30% nose dive is coming on almost all the Lowrance units, in stock, as new models are coming out.

I have either a 111 HD or a 38HD in my sights and the savings on either unit would be between 6 and 8 hundred bucks.

Tried to buy a unit last week, and a very reputable dealer wouldn't sell it to me until then. Said to just be patient and wait.
