Fishing Report

I got to Taney around 4:30 p.m. and just walked around and visited with the day shift crew. They were all hard at it, mainly consentrated from outlet 2 on down to the big hole. Watched an older gentleman catch and release a 30" 18 pound brown below #2. That fish walked him up and down the lake for a good 20 minutes. Looked like he was just walking a dog around. Spoke to a few fellas that said a bunch of good fish had been caught. Walking up and down the bank, I spied 5-6 really big fish on the north side above #3. Once it started getting dark and the day crew started going home I started getting the night gear ready. When George showed up we started fishing between outlet 2 and 3 working the bank where I had seen all the big fish. Very slow bite there. I only caught 1 fish and had just a few bites on black and purple mohairs. We decided to work the gauntlet down to the big hole. The bite was a little slow there too. When we got to the big hole I decided to put on a none weighted matuka and slow strip it. Finally started picking up some fish with some regularity. 3 in a row. Walked up to George to show him what I found to be productive and he was in the process of fighting a fairly nice brown about 20" long. Called it quits around 11 p.m.

Dang Ducky... did you bring a couple of fish back with you from Alaska and put 'em in Taney?

Sounds like the bigguns are making their way up to our neck of the woods!!

Terry- there's a huge difference in big fish here and big fish there. The small fish on the Naknek would kick the butt of any big fish on Taney. You don't "walk" a big fish on the Naknek. You'll never land one if you don't make him work. If you let them rest, they'll just go to your backing again and again.

AHHH!!!!!!!!!!! Im going insane! I havent got to fis in about a week now... Im ready to cry... But im seriously ready for our trip up there. Terry, if you have got the time you wanna fish next weekend? We are leaving Friday morning coming over, setting up camp then FISHING!!!!!!!! WOOT!!!!!!!!!! haha I cant wait. Well probably fish 24/7

Any ideas on where to start for a selection of Streamers? Ive got quite a bit of sculpins but havent a clue on anything else on what to throw. Keep in mind that I cant use a bead over 5/32 or any kind of dumbell eyes. Because of Team USA "training".

I tied up a few of your suggested patterns and went out again last night, the white bunny leech seemed to be pretty good up near the cable above 1. I also caught some on the electric blue mohairs. Now all I need is a replacement for the heavier stick I lost last year. Trying to pull in those fish with my 3wt just isn't going to work. Anyone know where I can find a used rod? Is there a spot on the forums for that for that?

Naknek fish would definately kick Taney fish butt! They dont give up untill your arm is about to fall off, your gear has been truely tested and you've ran down river 1/4 mile or more
