Kansas Fly Fisher Posted October 18, 2007 Posted October 18, 2007 Got to the water about 1:30 p.m., of course they were generating but it was only 1 unit. As we headed to the water they blew the horn with 2 units on now. We fished until almost 7:30 p.m. and was able to fool two bows. We fished from up around outlet 1 down to outlet 3 where ever we could find some fishable water. When they blew the horn for 3 units we decided to take a break and get some supper. After supper they had dropped back to 1 unit. We fished below outlet 2 for a bit and fooled one with a hare's ear. We then headed up to the flats below outlet 1 where we got into some nice browns. I ended up with three more browns with the biggest being just shy of 19 inches. Leonard can tell you about his experience but I believe he ended up with 8 browns to his name. All of the browns came on an olive PMS. The bows during the day come on scuds and hare's ear. Jake - nice seeing you again. Your woodworking and paintings are awesome. I'll have to tell the wife to put these on my Christmas list. Duane, Dave and Zander - nice meeting you guys. It's always good to put a face with the names. flyman Posted October 18, 2007 Posted October 18, 2007 Man I hope they shut those generators down soon! Was supposed to go last night, but they had three on. Guess with the storms I'm glad I didn't go anyways. Every time I call today the line has either been busy or said 3 units. Alright, I will stop complaining:)
zander Posted October 18, 2007 Posted October 18, 2007 It was nice meeting you too. Unfortunately didn't get a chance to talk to you guys much as I was heading back to Springfield when y'all came over to outlet #1 but I'm sure we'll meet again before too much longer. Phillip
duckydoty Posted October 19, 2007 Posted October 19, 2007 John It was good to meet you down there too. I ended up with an 8 1/2 pounder and 2 20 inchers. Dave (my little brother) got his biggest ever--A 12 1/2 pounder. Caught them between outlet 2 and 3. I was chucking and ducking with a shooting line fishing none weighted sculpins (pine squirrel) Dave caught his on a bead headed olive wooly bugger. We should be able to walk on fish as soon as they turn that water off. duckydoty A Little Rain Won't Hurt Them Fish.....They're Already Wet!! Visit my website at.. Ozark Trout Runners
Micheal Kyle Posted October 19, 2007 Posted October 19, 2007 Yes I will have to agree we will be walking on fish to get to more fish. I have only got to fish twice since we got back from up north and it has been great. I had one Saturday night that was 29 inches and wieghed in on my boga 13.5 pounds. Then yesterday I only had one fish it was a 24-25 inch fish and wieghed in on my boga at 6lbs. If you have never tryed the chuck and duck system you should it works extremly well when the water is on and plus you do not have to worry about your back cast. I will try to work on a how to today about chuck and duck and post it on OAF. Michael To Know People Is To Know Thier Ways!
Kansas Fly Fisher Posted October 19, 2007 Author Posted October 19, 2007 I assume we're talking about a method similar to what we used on the Naknek? John Born to Fish, Forced to Work KSMEDIC.COM
Micheal Kyle Posted October 19, 2007 Posted October 19, 2007 Yes we used it on the Naknek and plus that what we use every year when we go to Michigan. What a powerful way to get the presentation right. Michael To Know People Is To Know Thier Ways!
Kansas Fly Fisher Posted October 19, 2007 Author Posted October 19, 2007 Was a great method! I've been looking for the weight system they used but have had no luck. Do you have them or can you get them. Thanks - John Born to Fish, Forced to Work KSMEDIC.COM
Micheal Kyle Posted October 19, 2007 Posted October 19, 2007 I have the swivels and snaps I buy the pencil lead from Schmidt outfitters up in Michigan they are in Wellston. They also have the pliers that you will need to make the lead. Let me do some research and I will see if I can order the pliers and pencil lead from a distributor of mine. It might take me a couple of days to find out. To Know People Is To Know Thier Ways!
Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted October 20, 2007 Root Admin Posted October 20, 2007 I carry the lead and plyers... have for about 2 years. John- it's a simple "system". I've used it for 20 years in Michigan. Shooting line, zip line or amnesia. Tie a butt section- use no heavier line then your shooting line, say 20 pound. Length- the same length as your rod. Slip a snap swivel on, threading it thru the open eye allowing it to slide on the butt section freely. Tie a barrel swivel to the butt. We usually use #8's, black. Then tie your tippet, not more than 24 inches, not less than 18 inches. Then your fly(s). Attach your lead core to the snap swivel. That's it. Adjust the weight by changing lead. Keep your eye on the butt section close to the swivel for wear and tear. Micheal- you can order the plyers directly from LeadMasters. Those are the ones I carry- best by far.
