Well, my wife and I bought a new boat this week and of course we already have a trip planned for next july to Big Cedar Lodge. I just found this forum so I will be getting lots of ideas on how and where to fish I hope. Can I get an idea of how much say a 1/2 day guide would be? I need to get a map, but any general ideas on locations to fish would be great along with what types of fishing. I see drop shotting is a big deal there. Thanks guys

WarEagle, Well first congrads on your new boat!! Open your pockets and enjoy!! :goodjob:

Next Just about all of the guides down run about 250 for a half of a day trip for two people.. There are a few to choose from all of us can teach you anything you want..

Place to fish well, lets see.. Right there at Big Cedar Lodge is some really great places to fish that time of the year. The Big Island right out in front of big cedar gets alot of fishing pressure on the south side. The Bridge at 86 Hwy will offer some good fishing with night crawlers that time of year, Past the bridge into the next big creek arm is called Brushy Creek you will find alot of fish on the points in that creek on topwater that time of year. All of the main lake points from Dam to Big Cedar are pretty good also.

Next yes a good map of Table Rock helps, but stay on here and you can find even better reports from a few of us guides and non-guides as well we all love this lake and live down here or spend alot of time down here.

Well Good Luck with your new boat by the way what did you buy?

Enjoy and Good Fishing

Don,

I have seen your posts a good bit, you seem like a great guy, thanks for the pointers. I have bought a 2008 Basscat Cougar Advantage Elite and i finnagled a 2008 250 Pro XS on the back. Not bad for a 1st boat huh? I see from your website that you sell maps with places to fish. That sounds like a good idea. Any way I can get the version for people who won't be there but 3 days in the next 5 years or so? ha ha ha We are very excited, I hope to give that drop shotting a try. In fact, I have been thinking about trying it here as well in Alabama. I have the perfect rod ready to go. Thanks for the help. I might just be booking a 1/2 day trip with ya.

War Eagle, very nice boat!!! I had the pleasure of taking out Ivan, the National Sales Manager for Bass Cat to show him how to use and read his new Humminbird Electronics, he had a new 2008 cougar elite Black, Yellow and Red man this thing was a rocket!!! Very Impressive boat, handled well at top end fished even better, did you get the new Humminbird Graphs with yours? He was telling me that they are going to be the factory's choice for 2008. Anyway nice boat very nice boat..

Hey War Eagle,

Not that you asked, but you really should spend some time in open water learnig to safely run your boat. Get a feel for how to run rough water.

Get a feel for getting on plane and coming off place. A big ole glass boat sits down when you get off the gas and you WILL take water over the stern until you get the hang of how to do a rapid stop.

FWIW 4000 rpms burns a whole heck of a lot less gas than WOT.

I have fished from boats with outboards for 40 plus years and the move from a 40 hp to 150 hp was still a learning curve for me.

I rode in some big boats before I ran mine, but I still had to learn for myself.

Heck of a first boat! Enjoy it, but learn to use it safely.
