focused fishing Posted November 30, 2007 Posted November 30, 2007 Guys, I'd be glad to help with the seminar in anyway I can. I've been writting electronics articles for the past couple of years for Heartland and would be happy to help. Don, Phil or whoever is running this rodeo let me know what I can do and when it is. Fishing Buddy Don House Posted November 30, 2007 Fishing Buddy Posted November 30, 2007 Eric, basically there are some folks on here that want to know how to deep water fish and use electronics to do it. More or less a basic course or open discussion on electronics, Operating Frequency, peak to peak power, Sonar Coverage, screen resolutions, Color vers Black and Gray, dual frequencies units, sensitivity settings, bottom range settings, ect. I don't think it really matters of what brands, just what to look for when purchasing and using these graphs. We were thinking maybe if we can find a place local down here for a few hours at night or on the weekend for everyone to meet and discuss the ins and outs of deep water electronics that would be great. If you would like to help that would be great, maybe we could tag team this since both of us make a living doing just that, or try too!! This still is really in the discussion phase right now and maybe we can get this all together for them here soon. Thanks Don Capt. Dutch Posted November 30, 2007 Posted November 30, 2007 Which of you guys are recording your trips on an SD card? I would like some waypoint pointers please.
Fishing Buddy Don House Posted November 30, 2007 Fishing Buddy Posted November 30, 2007 Dutch, what are you wanting to know about way points? I mark alot everytime I'm out on my SD card, just way points only I don't record my paths or routes that I have traveled.. I can even record video of my way points that I have found, such as a large group of bass I can record them moving up and down and even taking the bait. Let me know what you are wanting to learn maybe I can explain it to you.. It's really easy. Talk to you later Capt. Don Capt. Dutch Posted December 1, 2007 Posted December 1, 2007 I have no problem with waypoints, icons, and trails which I mark on the unit I am using at the time, save them to an SD card and transfer them to the other head. I have started to record my day's fishing trip on the console unit. Playing it back on the 'puter I have seen several things which I missed during the day. I have isolated some items and gotten the coordinates for waypoints. I have also played the same recording on the unit head and marked waypoints as good stuff has scrolled by. When I compare the waypoints using the two methods they are quite different for example, one of them gave a W9345.545 with the 'puter while marked on the unit in the garage it was W9348.460. That is quite a difference. Which way do you think is the most accurate? Also have you used any programs to convert one mfg waypoints to another. I have downloaded GPSBabel and can't get it to run.
Fishing Buddy Don House Posted December 11, 2007 Fishing Buddy Posted December 11, 2007 Well everyone, maybe here in the late winter or beginning of spring we can get some type of basic electronics class together for everyone, I think I can get two or three of the local guides together, we can find a place to meet something that will hold everyone and have a class with open discussion on the ways to fish like this. The goal will be to have us talk about how to setup and tweak each of the types of units from the two major vendors. Instead of which one is better.. Make sense.. Dutch, also to answer your last question Yes I have but it Humminbirds version of software, I have not used the Lowrance version so I really can't answer how that works.. And as far as the GPS locations, that all depends on the number of Sat's that your GPS will support, mine is 17 some are 12 and some as low as 4. The more sat's your unit can talk with the better and more to the pin point locations your readings will be. I can save a waypoint and it is with in feet of my location everytime. Always trust the unit, is the way I look at it.. Hope Everyone has a great Christmas and Santa is good to all of you.. See Everyone on the Water.. Capt. Don Capt.
