Members drbewley Posted December 11, 2007 Members Posted December 11, 2007 I saw probably 50 power company trucks headed west on I-40 today at Russellville. I'm sure they are headed to OK. One group was from North Carolina.
Members SteveP Posted December 12, 2007 Members Posted December 12, 2007 Power is OUT here in St. Joe, only place with power is... WORK (go figure ) have trees and limbs down everywhere spent all morning digging out the neighbors (city slicks... I'll never understand) and the had to clear the street so we could get out to the road since the city was to busy scratching there *%%()^$&^$. So far no power and we've been out for about 20 hours or so now, looks like it may be a while longer yet though since the winds are picking back up and it's still raining ever so gently... It's been a bad day so far and I need a nap. Steve
am4mu Posted December 14, 2007 Author Posted December 14, 2007 Here in Independence we had ice but not the massive power failures that a lot of other areas across the midwest had. The news tonight says that starting tommorrow night into Saturday we are supposed to receive 3-6 inches of snow. That is ok we can deal with that as I still consider us extremely fortunate compared to what a lot of other people in the midwest are experiencing. My prayer is that I hope this snow does not hit the people that have already been decimated by the ice. Good luck everyone! Rusty Posted December 14, 2007 Posted December 14, 2007 Finally back among the living. Power was restored, after being out for approximately 60 hours. That was a whole new experience that I don't care to go through again. I was able to fianlly locate a generator, 45 minutes after cranking the bad boy up, our power came back on. All I could do was laugh. Our property damage is pretty extensive. We have holes in our roof and many areas where large tree limbs hit our roof broke the decking and rafters but held together. I found those areas by accident after climbing to the roof to cut and remove all the tree limbs. Carport is going to need to be replaced, the kitchen got water damage. Storage building got crunched, and the fence got hit in several places. The thing that hurts the most...my Weber Grill got smashed. I had no idea how much money it takes to survive and make repairs after something likes this happens. After making contact with our insurance agent on Tuesday, and getting a claim number that evening, I was told we might see a adjuster by the end of the week...Maybe. The good thing about all this...We all made it without getting hurt.
Members DavidF. Posted December 18, 2007 Members Posted December 18, 2007 Thank goodness for sunshine today. I lost power Tues. morning about 06:30 am when an old oak tree took out powerline. One of the conductors broke and shorted to ground sending my electric blanket into afterburner mode. The alarm on the CO detector and smoke alarm woke me up. Smelling smoke I quickly pulled on jeans and shoes and ran outside in freezing rain only to realize house wasn't on fire. Returning inside I shut off all breakers to house. Finally the fuseable link on powerpole blew. Power was restored on Sat. afternoon. I now appreciate the old floor furnace in this house at least I still had heat. Other than tree damage I lost a TV, the electric blanket and about $300 worth the food in refridgerator. I spend Saturday hooking up generators in the neighborhood where my folks live. They went 8 days without power. The clean up is now underway. Of the trees I lost 3 were very old pecan trees. I'm saving that wood for all the meat I'll smoke this summer. Sorry for the long post. I can't wait to go fishin'. DavidF.
