MoCarp Posted February 4, 2006 Posted February 4, 2006 The rigging is called a hair rig fish can take the bait without feeling the hook before its too late---it also is less likely for the fish to be gut hooked with this set up to fish paste like powerbait, you tie on a small spring made for such applications--or use a spring from a ball point pen for big preds like record class browns what better than still fishing with a dead bait? MONKEYS? what monkeys?
Wayne SW/MO Posted February 4, 2006 Posted February 4, 2006 I'm a little puzzled. If a fish, like a Trout who always seem to be tentative about biting, takes the bait, why wouldn't the hook feel foreign to them if they feel it on their lips? Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
MoCarp Posted February 4, 2006 Author Posted February 4, 2006 I'm a little puzzled. If a fish, like a Trout who always seem to be tentative about biting, takes the bait, why wouldn't the hook feel foreign to them if they feel it on their lips? they do not feel the hook until the bait part is swallowed then as they feel the hook the fish trys to expell it and is pricked--one of the reasons the hair is tied the way it is--to have the hook turn in as it is expelled to advance the rig a bit more is the use of the "bolt rig" where as the hook link is fixed to a heavy weight so when the fish "bolts" after feeling the hook--the weight drives it home sounds wierd I know--but it is deadly effective--the bite to getting hooked ratio is well over 85% far better than any thing else I have ever witnessed MONKEYS? what monkeys?
MoCarp Posted February 4, 2006 Author Posted February 4, 2006 one of the best tricks is to use PVA ( poly vinyl alcohol)--they make webing and bags just for fishing-- stuffed with maggots or trout pellets--which dissolves in water-- many other mixes it is tossed out with you hookbait to drawfish in and keep them feeding here is some better pics on how its used-- the one shot is a bag disolved in an test tank MONKEYS? what monkeys?
Wayne SW/MO Posted February 4, 2006 Posted February 4, 2006 Do you get the accessories over the net, or locally? Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
MoCarp Posted February 5, 2006 Author Posted February 5, 2006 lots of stuff can be bought at bass pro--bait runner reels 9 foot lite rods( I use 9ft bass pro micro lites for trout), baits, hooks--the hook baits for trout--power eggs, power paste bait--gulp corn and gulp maggots have worked very well for me for the longer euro action rods though you can get from cabelas (for trout they have a nice 11 foot live bait rod-)--> or online from 3 sources I have bought from with satisfaction--most of the terminal tackle that is needed is cheap and available there for all you bass guys--try hair rigging a small sluggo better action and hook ups good hooks are important----for trout size 6 and 8 for carp size 4 gami live bait hooks--I like these and they work well--I went through a lot of hooks till I got onto these--trust me--they ARE the choice http://www.wackerbaits.com/ http://www.americancarpsociety.com:8080/ACS/home.jsp http://www.royalcarp.com/Scripts/default.asp MONKEYS? what monkeys?
Wayne SW/MO Posted February 5, 2006 Posted February 5, 2006 I was curious about the ? that keeps the bait from sliding off and how you get the bait threaded on the mono? Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
MoCarp Posted February 7, 2006 Author Posted February 7, 2006 I was curious about the ? that keeps the bait from sliding off and how you get the bait threaded on the mono? The little plastic things are called boilie stops--I think a card of them is 65 cents--or in a pinch the plastic price tags they use at walmart the tool is a baiting needle--I think they cost a $1.85--in a pinch straighten out a 3/0 plastic worm hook slide the bait on the needle---hook the barb on loop and pull through--put a stop in the loop and tighten it back the best spacing is 1/2 the size of the bait from the bend in the hook Mo MONKEYS? what monkeys?

I saw one site that involved shrinking tubing on the shank, but you don't mention this. Do you whip the line up the shank and secure it? I'm most interesting in using this for trout w/ the kids and Powerbait eggs. Would you tie a swivel then use a slip sinker? If you want more than 1 egg, do you make the loop bigger? “Many go fishing all their lives without knowing that it is not fish they are after.” — Henry David Thoreau Visit my web site @ webfreeman.com for information on freelance web design.
MoCarp Posted June 20, 2006 Author Posted June 20, 2006 So I take it you rig up a few of these before you get to the water? That is the best way or you spend 30 minutes getting a hook in the water I saw one site that involved shrinking tubing on the shank, but you don't mention this. Do you whip the line up the shank and secure it? Yes you can, the no knot is a very strong knot...there are a bazillion little tweaks one can do with a hair rig, but those usally are for huge carp that are old and very hook smart, Trout (rainbows) I hate to say are pretty stupid compaired to a big carp. Would you tie a swivel then use a slip sinker? If you want more than 1 egg, do you make the loop bigger? the bait on the hair should be a 1/4 " from the hook no more no less, you will have to have a longer hair for more eggs a small swivel and a running rig with a bobber stop 2 foot above the weight you need a rubber bead to protect the knot... they are cheap soft and black, also use a painted slip sinker or spray with wd 40 to dull the shine--rub dirt to get it off before you put it in water the eggs float, you may find ajusting how far above bottom, may be critical in getting bites, experiment with hook links and look up pop up rigs then you will see ehat I mean " the use of a shot to restrict floating height" Good Luck Mo MONKEYS? what monkeys?
