Bman Posted January 3, 2008 Posted January 3, 2008 "I read where the stainless impeller just increases the life of it on smaller outboards. The bigger motors are the only ones that have a noticeable performance increase. I'm not sure how big your motor is, but I only have a 50hp Yamaha on my boat." You are right, with your 50hp,stainless steel impellers aren't really reccomended. The stainless steel impeller really helped my set up tho.Eliminated cavitation, and I can jump up on plane quicker! The only good line is a tight line
Seth Posted January 4, 2008 Author Posted January 4, 2008 What size motor and boat do you run? Troutt and Sons had a big jon boat, I was guessing an 1860, with one of those 300 Mercury stroker motors on the back at our fair parade this past summer. Man I wanted to take that thing for a spin around the lake bad. Any idea how fast something like that would run? I had a guy with a 17 or 18 foot boat and an older 225 Mercury jet said that he topped out around 55 mpg.
Bman Posted January 5, 2008 Posted January 5, 2008 I have a 2006 Yamaha 90hp 2-stroke motor,on a Southfork 17 ft boat that is custom made for jets.It is a real lite weight set up. Around Onondaga St Park, hwy H,I have seen lots of those boats with those 225-300 hp motors, and the shoal runners!Wow that would be fun to play with, but they suck WAY more gas than something under 100 hp.Thats a lot of boat to run shallow and narrow water, imagine running one of those babies up on a gravel bar! Have you ever seen any of the River Pro boats made right here in Hillsboro Missouri? They are awesome. www.riverpro-boats.com/ You asked about actual speeds?,honestly I don't really know. The only good line is a tight line
Members bourbeusefisher Posted January 7, 2008 Members Posted January 7, 2008 I have never winterized my 2 jets. The main reason why is this is the time to catch some real nice size bass on our rivers. I do generally sharpen my impeller about 2 times a year, because I fish about every day. This is something that is very easy to do most people should not have any problems doing this. Check out the internet on how to sharpen outboard jet impellers there is some info out there.
